Anyone seen/use these switchable ballasts ? saw one on fleabay, a digi ballast that can switch between 400w and 600w spose it could be usefull to have the 400w in veg and 600w to flower with one ballast ?

I have heard of such things, and that was in the context of them being used for expensive lighting installations on buildings of architectural significance or just very posh ones.

I would have thought that their rarity and niche nature would mean that they are a bit expensive for our purposes - it would probably work out cheaper to just buy one of each. wink1.gif

one I saw was for £129.99 new, looked like any other digi ballast, couldn't find an actual online retailer for em tho and there was no manufactuer mentioned on fleabay. Just wondered if anyone had expirence with em. The seller shop is called 'Aquatic-Digital' managed to nick pics whistling.gif

Found some more info, their made by B.A.L. ? found it listed in a german head shop for 199 euros.

With it being digital and all, I wonder if it's just a fancy way of dressing up the 'Super Lumen' feature that some of the digis have. It's quite a bit more difference in power than what they usually provide, though.

Iv'e seen horti/hydro suppliers that sell dimmable digi ballasts. If memory serves unsure.gif they can be set to run at 50% 75% or 100% power. They are 600w to start with and osram lamps are recommended I think. Sounded quite cool to me actually as I do a bit of vegging on in the tent before 12/12 would be cool to run it at 300W during this. My tent is 1 metre squared so 400W is about optimum I think and also anything more would run hot so the 450W setting would be good. In winter I think I could make use of the full power setting.

neat bit of kit, about £150-160 thumbsup.gif

Yeh I've seen these, think the lastest model lumatek's have a dimmer. Unsure what under powering would do to a lamp tho? maybe thats why osram are recomended ?

I use 600w in the same size, up the wattage, increase the ventilation and sit back and wait.
