right iv been trying to sort this out for weeks now and its seriously winding me up!!
i bought this laptop after july 26th, when i was in currys all the laptops had a little piece of card next to them with all their specs on, and this one said "eligible for windows 7 upgrade" or something along those lines. So i decided to buy it knowing i would be able to upgrade to windows 7 as soon as it all gets sorted.

Windows 7 has been out for a while now and its been clear i have been had off!
On the HP website it is letting you upgrade but your computer must have either vista premium, business or home (i think)
I have windows vista basic so i cant do it can i?

why did they adveritse in currys that i could upgrade this laptop, when i clearly cant?
very pi$$sed off!

cheers smoke.gif

What does Curry's say about it
Gretna
Well along with advertising that this laptop would be able to upgrade to windows 7 for free

The guy working there also backed this up (i know he works for them and so on but i thought he might tell the truth considering i would find out when i couldnt upgrade)
Eddiesilence
Any mileage in insisting they make good on their promises?
Gretna
do you think i should get in touch with them? i get the idea i would just get told a load of crap and convinced i am wrong

Go in check there P.O.S to make sure your spot on, then approach the counter and discuss it loudly if needs be. Check for small print that states it's for premium/buisness users of vista only. If it fails to have that, then there advertising wrongly and open for challenge.

If its down in writing that you can get a free upgrade then they have to BY LAW upgrade you. if they advertise some thing then they have to do it. if they advertised you laptop for 100 pounds then they gotta sell it for 100. even if they lose money just make sure you have the writing to/advert to prove it

Its a fucking nightmare isn't it mate?

Got my laptop around the same time and I'm still waiting for the damn thing, I think Dell's get the upgrade in 2 days, might be the same for your computer?

Guess theres a time limit to when you can edit? O well

Anyway Gretna, I don't think that windows 7 is out yet, beta versions more than likly but its on sale to the public on the 22nd, so I'd guess thats when you'll get yours?

Just reading your original post, if its says on the HP website that basic isn't eligible for upgrade sounds like currys has given you the right shaft mate.

What a bunch of fucking cunts they are never once heard a good thing about them.

Hi,

The windows 7 upgrade is not out yet for whoever said it was, release date is the 22nd.

This is the webby you need to register at to get the upgrade, the person selling you the laptop should have provided a booklet with the info, and you will need your receipt to register.

Also incase you didnt get given a booklet, you have to pay for postage, can be upto 20 quid.

http://www.win7upgrade.co.uk/

*edit* intresting thing on the page...

- Shipping and handling fees apply.
*Offer only available from June 26th 2009 until October 23rd 2009 for Vista Premium, Business and Ultimate operating systems.

so guess basic owners are screwed, but i would go in and claim faulse advertising smile.gif

Peace.

As well as only certain versions of Vi$ta being eligible, ¿that's hardly a 'free upgrade' is it? £20 for P&P on a DVD is outrageous - OK, it's cheaper than buying it retail, but it's still a con. pooh.gif

e²a: And some of the very *last* places I would consider buying PC stuff from are Currys, Dixons and PC World &c. (they're all the same company, anyway). Maplins are abysmal for PC hardware, too.

Yer i agree its not really free, but its not the dgsi group who have set that price its the oem's.

i wouldnt say avoid PC World or Currys, but be a smart consumer, when shopping for my lappy, PC World was the cheapest, but thats their plan smile.gif get u in to buy your lappy and then sell you lots of other stuff spliff.gif

I'm in the same boat - I just bought a shiny new laptop - I didn't even know about Windows 7.. How do I tell what version of Vista I have? I it worth buying 7?

You are right about PC world - the guy kept hassling me to pay loads of money to cover it. I would point out that if it breaks that easily, I won't buy it.. At which points he backtracks, says it's reliable, but that 'The warranty is a nightmare to claim' etc. And tried to charge me THIRTY QUID to 'set up' windows. Which was installed already..

Don't get me started on those Tech Guys. SEVENTY QUID to defrost and clean a freezer.. I'm in the wrong buisiness..
chewable_madness
My "free" upgrade is costing me £15 handling, must be good if its that heavy...
