as the title says im building a 4ft x 4ft x 7ft greenhouse leentoo ..got the brick base built today ..but was wondering where i could aquire some decent obscured polythene ..not the sort that goes on those metal framed temporary ones ,ive had two of those buggers ,ok they work but the polythene rots really easily ,and true to cheapskate form i was wondering if anyone has any idea where to aquire some thicker cloudy type of poly ,this has to last two years or until i can stump up for some polycarbonate sheeting ..i cant risk clear sheeting as i have new neighbours now adn i want to fill the bugger with plants next year without having to disguise the thing as a woodstore and dump .

c`mon you ingenius guys and gals give us a clue

How about the plastic for poly tunnels - should last 4 years min between replacements...?
vince noir rock n roll star
ok how do i aquire it ?
VanDal
???

either nick it or buy it from any garden shop.

they sell it in various widths by the linear metre just like the reflective sheeting you know and love!

you can also get poly sheeting in various shades %ages...

Dont know wether this will help or not but I did a small poly tunnel a bit back with some packing plastic from a mate who's an upholsterer. It was the rally thick stuff, he used it to pack sofas and matresses in it. It came as a tube so i had to cut it, but the sheets were quite big. Dont know wether it is any more hardy than the stuff you previously used, I used it for a year and then had to get rid but it was still in good nick.

synchroncity solarchild ..i just had a look at the mini greenhouse i have and remebered using the very same packing material ..and as it happens my new neighbour works at a furniture shop ..i think the problem is about to be solved ..im sure he can get me some of the mattress polythene ..ask and ye shall recieve as they say ..thanks everyone for jogging me memory
VanDal
... you'd make a scotsman blush.... wink.gif

what can i say ..im a recycler extraordinaire ..i hate to see things go to waste
rollem up
wickes sell sheets of double layer rigid type polythene sheet, may be worth a look but probably same cost as polycarbonate

sell ? what is this word you speak of?

update i managed to reuse the old greenhouse cover along with some mattress polythene ..20 bricks 10 bits of wood a little damp proof course and its done ..gotta tweak it a little as it needs a longer door flap ..so ive reused scraps and stuff like the old greenhouse bars and covers ..but for a days work and a packet of staples id say its not too bad ..at least ill have a secure greenhouse for next years growing

Looks good mate - if you need more poly, a lot of Strawberry tunnels will be being uncovered now - the growers replace the whole sheet every couple of years or so, and there is acres of good plastic left on an old one. Ask any grower - they will be dumping it along the edges of the fields, and it should be a bit cloudy.. What a waste..

well weedmonsta ..so far in my seed collection i have

bumble bud
lebanese
mazar-i-sharif
oldtimes
white satins
kings kush
trainwreck
white shark
white rhino
power plant
randy candy
lowryder 1
sweet thai
durban poison
bodicea
and a few others i cant remember ..so i think im gonna go for oldtimes ,white satins ,power plant and maybe the sweet thai ..plus if i can get me some speed devils ill bung them in too ..ive built a rack in the greenhouse thats the full height and has 3 shelves of roughly 2 1/2 ft each ..plus the floor space ..but im gonna be building another solar heater to mount on the wall and then insulate the wall with towers of coke cans too so not 100% sure yet ..ive still got my indoor cab running at the mo ..just started a couple of lebs and a feminised kings kush .

well we had torrential rain last night and the greenhouse was bone dry this morning ..success ..a little rain build up on the roof but that can stay as added insulation .

Well Done, That Man!

It looks the bizziness!

I hope your area and g/house is secure.

The local scallies round me have no fear of going looking into people's gardens...
so that option is out for me. mad.gif

we boobytrap the garden with noisy things like windchimes attached to the gate and rakes left precariously balanced .you`d be a bloody fool to try and walk through our garden without letting us know your coming first ..oh another little update ..the roof sprang a little leak earlier today whilst i was out ..looks like a seagul had a peck at it ..so tomorrow another layer of poly is going on it ..shame but it has to be water tight
