what is a light mover? read people on here using them with two lights

many thanks
Mono
It's a ceiling mounted rail that you attach your lamp to and it moves your lamp slowly up and down the length of the rail, allowing you to cover a greater area....

We used to attach a kind of beam below it and mount 3 lamps along the beam,

Haven't used one for years now, there are probably loads of better ones about now for multi lamp rooms

don't make the mistake some do and think it replaces a light/s

it doesn't

but it does help a more uniform grow, and allows light further under the canopy by acting in a more natural like movement

when i had one and was using it, i had it moving about 18 inches up n down the rail - far as i can remember!

i'm not using it now for any reason other than its work setting up - lazy git you see!

the link dometick left i personally would not buy, no offence dome. just a few freinds have had the jupiter setup and told of various problems (never seen myself tho,so may stil be good, just goin on reccomendation)
so i got myself a lightrail 3.5, v.good bit of kit but would say that the wheels the motor is hooked to the rail with dry out quickly and need re-greased often to avoid juddering
to try out, handy things when used right

that is no problem at all dohicky

it was just to show what one was

i didn't mean to seem like i was recommending that particular one, it was just that that is the one greens do, and you're not allowed links to any hydro sites other than theirs. thats why i also said to google it

i had what you've got - good piece of kit - i extended it to so there was two rails joined together wink.gif

you can also get sun movers, which go in a circle as opposed to up n down

When should a light mover be used....when a room is over a certain size ?

they can be used anytime with good/great effect cool.gif

you just use them as a supplement to your lights that are there already

where lights are static they create shadows under the leaves so the light doesn't penetrate much beyond 24" below the canopy (600w)

even by moving the light(s) continuously back and forth a small amount it will help the light get further down by changing the angle of light penetration

if you want to see how they work, just move one of your current lights back and forth a foot or so, and see how different parts of the plant below the canopy get exposed to the light that were previously in shadow

they have quite a big effect on the lower buds formation guitar.gif

they're not cheap, its an investment like all equipment

the one i had still works now and i've had it years. It is only that my current room design doesn't fit it, as i have ballasts above the lights, that i'm not using it

you can get extensions for the track also, so one motor can move multiple lights. With the extension you get the extra track and a little trolley that freerolls along the track that the next light hangs off

if there was a downside to them, its that you have moving cables which can be a bit unnerving the thought of them getting caught up somehow.

also, the track can be awkward to put up. we mounted ours to a piece of 6"x1" and secured that either end of the enclosure

all in all though, top piece of kit
minority
iv got two light movers in use along with the promantis reflectors

there faultless

my 600w lights are about 8 inches away with no hot spots and no burning and bigger(much bigger) buds

well worth the investment imho cool.gif

I have four, lightrail 3.5 units. One in my veg tent, three in me flower room. They are ideal when you have a lot of space and don't want to spend a lot on 'leccy bills. You also produce less heat as you can use less lamps.

My 1st two diaries havesome pics on how I installed them. I've used them for over two years now and love them! thumbsup.gif

There are also light movers that move the light in a circle. Commonly called Spinners, these are generally very expensive, high end contraptions.
leepy
Same as ^Rand said i think there fucking mint i own 3 and using 2 the others on loan lol.gif both of mine have been slightly modified to carry 2x600s i think everyone should have one wink.gif

i know this threads old but jst wanted some advice.

im looking to get a light rail 5.0 for my new grow room that can take three lights side by side,
2 x 600w hps and a 600mh.

its for a 8.5ft x8.5ft room which was originally going to have 4 600w hps and a 600w mh,

3000w = 41w per sq ft,

really im wondering will these three lights with the light mover give the same results and save me money on electric bills?
