Full Version: Changing The Hours In The Flowering Cycle

OK without getting into non-euclidian mathematics there are three possibilities of lighting cycles for the flowering stages: exatly 12/12, more more than 12 light and less than 12 dark, or, less than 12 light and more than qw dark.

The plant needs less than 16 hours of light a day (or more importantly more than 8 hours of darkness a day) to enter into flowering and it needs 12 hours of darkness to finish the lifecycle. Has anyone ever played with the ratio? I've been toying with a few ideas and wanted to know if anyone had any experiences in the past.

1. Gradually reducing the light from 16 or 15 to 12 or less in the final week(s)
2. Going right to 12/12 and gradually reducing to 8ish hours
3. Going to 12/12 and inreasing in the last wek to 13 or maybe 14 hours light. I believe this can make the buds grow a bit but they can get more leafie

I believe it has been experimented with pretty extensively, at worst if you vary from 12/12 you will get hermie/reveg problems, at best you will cut a week or two off of the total grow. AFAIK 12/12 is the optimum to use and it ain't worth messing with it, especially if your environment is less than perfect.
