Right _ i have a ten pit wilma but only use four pots as i am doing a scrog and dont need that many plants.

Anyway, got three fans going, an extractor, an intake etc...but by far the noisiest thing is the water pump, when it comes on the whole room vibrates and the noise comes through the floor to the room downstairs.
it is a Maxijet 750

Does any one have any ideas what to do? or even if there is a silent pump out there i am happy to spend money to get this sorted as it is the only thing that bugs sh*t out of me

try putting the rubber sucker on the pump and keep it off the plastic sides
it is mostly vibrations off the side of the tank.

Suspend it up off the bottom of the res, thats what I did

I've got the same pump and it does make a bit of noise alright. But to be honest its not THAT loud.... and it doesn't do the shaking thing at all. Most of the noise I get comes from my aeroponic sprayers. Make sure the pump is completely submerged and use the suction cup to stick it to the reservoir. If that doesn't help or is not an issue perhaps the pump is possessed by some sort of 'evil' spirt or demon? Maybe its a defect? Or try something with a lower wattage?

rofl.gif had exact same problem,
i think it's bartman who tells people to put another wilma pump in the res on constantly instead of an air pump rofl.gif there noisy pumps thats for sure,
i just use a digital grasslin timer an only have it on for 1-2 mins max each time, now i hardly notice it.

How did you do that? I have put it on a rubber mouse mat, I use the rubber sucker, but ti still makes a racket - so am open to suspend it - did you hang it from the tank or from an external object?

Cheers

Nutes
Not tried this but it just came to me. May be worth a try.

Get some food grade silicone sealant and make some squidgy feet sorta thing with blobs of silicone on the bottom of the pump then use the sucker to stick it to the tank and the feet to soak up the vibes. kinda like most real big pumps and motors are mounted. on wobbly feet. semi fixed point via the pipe work (sucker in our case) and wobbly feet on the motor/pump.

Not sure if the silicone will affect your water in any way so maybe its worth finding out. maybe someone here knows.

BTW you need to take the pump out of action for a while to allow the silicone to cure so its maybe for inbetween crop messing around if you've got a grow on at the moment.

If someone says its ok to put silicone sealant in the tank and it wont kill the plants or mess with nutes etc etc then i'll do it to my pump and post some pics of what i mean. im a bit boated at the minute so the above may make no sense. hope this helps rofl.gif

not sure if this is any use, but the noise off an airpump bugged me no end; i got round it by putting the pump ontop of a washing-up sponge ( scratchy sponge my daughter calls `em ).

If there is room in the res,, it might be worth trying,,

Have a couple of maxi jets and find em noisey. Only really use em as transfer pumps now. (Can't remember where one of em is now come to think of it).

I use an eheim 5000lph as my main pump running 24/7 in diy aeroflo and I have to check to see its running as I cannot hear it over ballasts and oscillating fans. No rubber feet or any antivibration measures. Worth a look I'd say. They make lots of sizes and I got mine from some auction site.

ive had the 1000ltr & the 500ltr pumps & they were noisy before they packed in pooh.gif
(dont know what did them in exactly but i think the fine grit i get off the clay balls didnt help doh.gif )

so i ended up getting a replacement of fleabay, went for a 2000ltr jobbie as im doing 9 plants,
damn near flooded the place when i first switched it on to try, the only way ill use it now is if
i buy a hi power sunbed & call my self Quang wink.gif

so i managed to try a few of the 300ltr mi mouses & they work a treat.

Cheers everyone - I will buy one of each - the mimouse and eheim

Sucks, i have sponges everything - dont understand why they are vibrating so much - maybe as stated earlier - the grit from the pebbles

Thanks again

I 100% agree on the eheims. I've been watercooling pc's for years and the only pumps I ever use are eheims. They are silent efficient and seem to last for ever!

Just ordered the 1000 lph eheim - if this fails, I am going handwater in coco next:)

Try What Owd says, suspend the bugger on a wire. I had a similar problem some time back, followed his advice and now all is quite.
