Can't get any cubes locally, got plenty of roofing insulation here.
Not a fan of soil, always stays too wet.
Anyone tried shoving the clones into pots loosely stuffed with rockwool/insulation?
Either that or I will soil them.

quite a number of years ago we used to use rockwool roof insulation mixed with soil. not sure what the problem is with soil staying too wet (wet/dry cycle = good thing) but i can't see why you shouldn't use roof insulation as a growing medium... just be careful it doesn't have some nasty shit in there. i would say go for the soil but then it's all down to personal preference. that said, why not order some cubes online if you really want them...

Roof insulation will have fire retarding chemicals in it, they will probably kill your plants.

I tried roof insulation last month - in short it didn't work.
Long story - I got some rockwool (glass in my hands) and wet it and micro-waved it for 1 min to kill off any bugs.
Soaked the rockwool for 12 hours in weak nutes at 20 deg c. Took each piece out and took out a fair bit of water, leaving some.
Just like Grodan procedure but with roof rockwool.
It was difficult to maintain its structure and after putting a bean in it, the bean failed to thrive, and the rockwool stunk - don't know why.
Got some Grodan rockwool for a mate, did the same procedure - worked a treat... (same batch of beans)
My guess is that the structure is important to allow the seedling to emerge.
But if your beans are cheap - have a go - there's no substitute for doing it yourself - you'll never forget then!
Good luck.
