Im just wondering what is the cheapest way of controlling the speed of my rvk and my clip on desk fan.
I know there are various controllers etc. and I can wire them in no probs, Im very good with electrics.
Just wanting to know where to get the cheapest device for the job? Though if any present any known problems I would rather steer clear.
Something cheap, and reliable
cheers to any1 who can point me in the right direction

cheap, get yourself a b&q fan dimmer (dont use lighting dimmer switches!!!!) bout a 10er, although not all b&qs stock them, should be able to find something similar on the net easy enough

for £30 (£35 delivered next day) you can get a variac from maplin. ultra-reliable/totally adjustable... check the DIY section.

Im running a 150mm rvk fan, and a small desk fan. would the maplin variac 0.75a variable transformer be ok for it?
cheers

0.75a is good for 180w ( 0.75(a) x 240(v) = 180(w) ) so you'll be fine, I run a 4" ruck and 2 6"clip ons no probs on the maplins variac. thumbsup.gif

( 0.75(a) x 240(v) = 180(w) ) x power factor, which for motors will be around 0.8 = 140W volts x amps is only correct for DC circuits

Yeah fair enough, i stand corrected. Forgot that bit.
