hello lovely people...

well, I am 8 weeks into my mixed blue cheese/chiesel grow and on a couple of the chiesel plants over the last few weeks, the tops of the a few of the colas have started throwing out dense, yellowish, leafy 'buds' except they look more like flowers. They have a couple of white pistils coming out of each of them. They are very dense, but the thing that worries me is the minimal covering of trichomes, as elsewhere down the plants, there are plenty of normal-looking buds, plenty of THC with mostly orange pistils. I know that towards the end of the cycle the plants occasionally throw out male flowers with the banana-shaped pollen sacs, however these don't resemble those, and besides, one of the BCs has exhibited mild hermie-ing already and this looks totally different.

I have been checking trichome progress on the rest of the branches and it's mostly fairly milky already - I prefer an up high so will be harvesting at around 15% amber... however, according to the breeder's notes Chiesel likes a longer maturing time so do you think these new growths will eventually frost up or is it some kind of abberation?

some pics (ps excuse the psychedelic colours; it's hard to take good pics under HPS).

here's the best close-up I can get of this phenomenon:

and here's a picture of the main cola it's affecting, you can see the yellowing at the top. Huge cola though, my hands are on the large side of average for a bloke so that should give you some idea of the size of the thing. It weighs at least 400g I would estimate...

Tbh mate your plant is either a bad pheno or its not getting 12 hours of total darkness

The cola looks like its revegging, or like i said a bad pheno cos its more leaf than bud

The plant also looks like its got and had nutrient problems

What Owderb said.. Plus:

How close to the light is it? it looks like it's had heat stress to add to it's little list of woes.. pinch.gif

Don't worry though fella - you'll still get plenty of nice smoke. smile.gif

Hmm... I hope it's not a bad pheno, it's the only one of the chiesels I managed to get a clone from to make a mother! generally it's a great plant, smells fucking rotten (in a good way)...

I saw the yellowing and drying of the leaves starting about two weeks ago and assumed this was normal stuff due to the plant reacing the end of its cycle, but to be safe I flushed for a week before resuming a lower dose of bloom (1.2 ec), they're now on 1.6 ec GHE 'Ripen' for the last two weeks. I kinda shot myself in the foot though, doing a mixed-strain grow in hydro - the Blue Cheeses rapidly showed signs of nute burn at 1.8 so I backed it off during veg quite a bit but I think the Chiesels are much heavier feeders, although the yield looks like double that of the Blue Chees even if they're half-starved.
I definitely won't repeat that mistake again - one strain at a time unless it's pots, from now on!
AFAIK there are no serious light leaks (some small pinholes only) in my grow tent, - and presumably if there were serious leaks causing reveg, more than one plant would be affected, or at the very least, the whole plant, no? I am assuming a plant can't be in veg and bloom at the same time if different parts of it are in different light conditions...

oh, and the top is about 8"-12" from the light and temps are about 27 degrees in that spot so I'm not sure it's heat stress either - although at one point in veg during the summer I was shitting it cos temps went up to about 38 for a few days until I could afford supplemental ventilation

the other thing I neglected to mention is I have been feeding them 1ml/litre of Canadian Xpress 'Head Masta' throughout the bloom cycle - do you think this anomaly might have anything to do with me being a bit overzealous with the bud steroids..?

this is my first grow by the way so all this info you guys are giving me is gonna really help for next time... thanks heaps smile.gif
