Im after a 1000w digital ballast and I have ruled out a Lumatek. Ive also kinda ruled out magnetic 1000w hps as I read they comsume around 1150+ watts per hour. I want a ballast that uses as close to 1 kw per hour as possible!
Ive been drawn towards the 1000w Lightwave as I havnt read any problems with it. Lightwave also state their equipment is fully shielded and dosnt interfere with any tv or radio.

Price isnt that much of an issue, as I just want a half decent reliable digital 1000w. Any info or particular recommended manufacturer is greatly appreciated guys

Can i ask why you have ruled out the Lumatek?

I have a light wave, and it is very good. smile.gif

I ruled out the Lumatek as I have researched their 1000w digital, and it still needs a little work, and has some radio interference. Im sure they will have it fixed soon, but I cant wait. Im in no way dissing lumatek, the rest of their digital range is probably the best on the market!

Andypotatoes, thats the type of answer I was looking for. ma man.
I think Il give the light wave a try.
What shade and bulb brand are you running?
Tutu
Lumatek don't sell a 1000w here yet as there's unsolved RF issues.

At least tha's the spiel I got 3 months ago.

I'd buy that lightwave had my eye on it myself.

I love my 1000w penetration is amazing (Only magnetic but eyeing the upgrade.)

OK guys, so after my post, and the replies, I was geared up to get a 1000w light wave, checked a popular auction site, one for sale, emailed the guy, and he tells me that they have none in stock, and that light wave had a few issues to resolve with their 1000w ballast.
IS THIS TRUE?
I really need a 1000w within the next month, and kinda has to be digital, can anyone point this lost soul in the right direction as to what to do
cheers guys

Had a 600w Lightwave for about 6 months with no problems. Cant help with the 1000w but they look like a quality product and have 3 year warranty.

you could get 2 x 600w digi's lot betta light spread. Supose it depends on room size.

I use 3 x 400w luma digis. They work great for the size of my closet and would'nt think about changing them.

Good luck hunting bro!

Ive used 600w before, though Im only wantin 1 x 1000w as Im in a 4 x 4 room. Heat aint an issue, got a cool tube and fan. I want 1000w penetration!!!
Only reason I was goin for a digital is because they dont pull as much electric, thogh if any1 can recommend a good magnetic(analog?) ballast, that will not pull more than 1.1 kw/h every hour, ie an imput of around 1100w, or less, let me know and Il be happy to go with it.
I did a quick search, found a "Maxibright" 1000w ballast, sounds good, though any1 no what it pulls in watts per hour
cheers
Tutu
I use a maxibright 1000w ballast, it's fine, it does flicker a bit but un-noticable to the human eye get a camera in there and you can see it. I use it in 4x4 foot and the penetration is awesome check out my diary in my sig.

I was thinking of getting a digi but TBH the ballast runs a little hot but since I bought it brand new and it's under 6 months old I doubt I can justify it and in my experience digi's are nice buys when buying new kit but pointless upgrades if you have newish magnetic ballasts already.

I emailed lumatek and they told me the 1000w's have RF issues and can't light MH properly which is why they're not out here yet.

If you buy a lightwave post how you get on as I'm very interested I want to add antoher 1000w next year and I have my eye on the lightwave or nextgen ballast's.

Having used 600w's before I believe them to be a step backwards to anyone using 1000w, they might be more efficient by a couple of lumens a watt but the penetration is poor is comparison to a 1000w. Growing with a 1000w after a 600w is like going from an envirolight to a 400w HPS it's that big a difference.

Tutu, exactly what I was lookin for. I think Il avoid the lightwave now you say maxibrights are good. I want reliability!!
I agree with your comment on the 600w being a step backwards from the 1000w hps, unless electricity is an issue.
Im gonna check out your diary afta dinner mate, cheers for the heads up smoke.gif
NEWAY, do you know how much the 1000w pulls from the socket per ie how many watts it atually uses to run?
Its the Maxibright mk3 1000w Il prop go for, so if any1 can help out with the power consumption, it would be great

peace
derekm1807
anyone know the wattage the 1000w maxibright mk3 pulls? or the amps, so I can work out the hourly usage

thanks
Tutu
<1050 watts according to me power monitor but I doubt the total reliability of a £10 bit of kit from Wilko's.

I would put only 2 on a 13 amp circuit, especially with fans and the like.

It's so close to a unit an hour I would say 19 units for veg a day and 13 for flower and you'd be close enough to work out your bill for lighting only.

Dump the cool tube and buy a parabolic, you need an oversize tube for 1000w anyway can't use the 600w version the bulbs are a lot bigger it shocked me when I first saw it.

The parabolic and decent ventilation and I guarantee you won't see heat problems.

Lights on 23C ish lights off 15C (I know I need a heater) using 300m3 fans for intake and outake which are both split equally using T pieces into 2 tents.

The ballast is too hot to touch but keep it clear and good airflow and everythings fine.

In all honesty the ballast is cooler than my old 600w's but I got them from a skip.

I don't know if you've ever used a digi but my lumatek 600w still bangs out a shit load of heat less sure but they're still hot I bet the 1000w's get pretty damn hot.

Reliability well magnetic ballast been round 20 years+ digi 5 years, I'd put my bets on the magnetic.

Hey Tutu,
thanks for the reply mate.
My cool tube matches my ducting (150mm) though I have not tried a 1000w in the cool tube yet, so may need a parabolic.

The heat of the ballast isn't really an issue, Il keep it nice and open, and raised of the floor on a couple strips of wood.

The only thing stopping me from gettin a MaxiBright is the worry of how much wattage it requires to run per hour, but if no1 can help me, Il just have to buy it and see yahoo.gif

So, just to clarify, a parabolic shade, is like a funky umbrella shape shade?

cheers biggrin.gif
