hi all just wondering how many of you run your lights at night if your on eco 7 doing this i feel would save a mass amount of money in 1 year if i was to run my lights in the daytime i would be charged 15p per kilowatt and at night time for 7 hours this would go down to 5p per kilowatt. So the bigger picture would look like this using a 400watt hps

1 month at 12 hours a day would cost 23.66 pound but running at night would look more like 10 pound a month so as you can imagine doing this all year would save you more then 120 pound. this is on lights alone

And you would save even more if you ran for more then 12/12 and ran higher wattage lamps

i also feel doing this would personally help me due to running my grow in my shed as the higher temps in the day and running lamps also would mean these temps would be increased. but as the temps at night are lower and running your lamps at night this would mean your plants are nice and hot day and night.....

The only downside i can see is your not going to be able to tend to your plants in the day due to them needing complete darkness when in the dark cycle

what do you all think?

Seems like a good idea, the cost of the meter usually ofsets any savings for quite some time.

If I understand it right, from like 1am-8am you get the lower rate. Would suit me to turn lights on at 8pm and off at 8am. Tend to the plants in the evening when I get home from work. Not for everyoen tho.

o did not realize you needed an eco 7 meter. i must already have one stalled lol.gif.

it starts at 11pm or 12pm depending on BST OR GMT as we are in bst atm it runs from 12pm to 7am

The meters cannot cost that much i would not have thought? i bet it costs around 50 quid to change them.... that would be around half a year and it would be payed for........ In theory

ps the pole is ment to stay yes i do not yes i dont ffs pinch.gif rofl.gif

My electricity supplier said it would be like £500 or something. Are you sure?

im not sure of the ins and outs or even what a watt costs, but i save about £1 a day by having my lights on from 9pm to 9am! but thats on a key meter! plus, i never have to worry about it running out during lights on, because even if it does, it doesn't switch off from the box until after 9 in the morning!

i looked into economy 7 a while ago, and it sounded to me like the daytime rate for the first xxxxx kw would cost so much more each month that it would be no good whatsoever for our house sadwalk.gif
and you don't get a full 12hrs at a discounted rate .

i changed to economy 7 for this reason years back at an old place and it didn't cost me anything to change it over

was a bit worried when i got my bill though, and it put me off using it a bit

the economy 7 part was over 3 x my normal usage during the day, and i thought it might set some alarm bells ringing because of this and changed to a 24hr constant tariff, so noone could tell WHEN i was using lots of electric

my lights are on 8pm - 8am, but this has nothing to do with electric

rather that during the summer the lights are on during the coolest part of the day, so helping to keep a more level temperature in the room throughout the 24hr period

and during the winter the lights are on during the coldest part of the day, so helping blah blah

it isn't as convenient as having them on during the day it has to be said, as for me night times are generally a busier time socially cheers.gif

but it really does help with controlling the temperatures when you have a few lights going

i run my lights on night times with a dual rate meter and its considerably cheeper than what ive heard it costing peeps on single rate meters, last bill for the quarter was £120,our cookers electric and i run a 250w enviro on 20hrs aswell as a 600w sodium on 12hrs.Works for me as its chirpycheapcheap wink.gif
