Long story short the landlord is coming around very soon. I have 2 white widows nearly filled a 1m square net. Obviously this all has to go as its just not worth the risk. However i would like to not have to start from scratch again due to the expense of seeds, time required and the fact i already have 2 huge plants. So i was thinking about cloning. Take cuttings from the plants, ditch the rest, then start again from some hidden clones. So when taking clones, is bigger better? should i just be cloning single shoots, or is it an advantage to do it with sections of the plant. eg do i just want a Y shaped bit, or a miniplant shaped bit? Do i need flexible stem material to get it to root, or will the harder more woody bits of stem also work?

Thanks you please!
Tremont-Salby
can you not put them in a wardrobe on the morning of the visit, then all equipment somewhere else ?

a couple of plug in air fresheners around or and a spray of lynx africa bad.gif in the bedroom as he pulls up outside

seems like a right ballache to have to all but abort a grow each time a LL comes round

Hi Barry Scott

You could take clones as long as your not more than a couple of weeks into flower at the latest but if your going to have these visits every 3 mths then personally I would rethink doing a scrog due to the time they take to fill the screen, unfortunately its not good if you get busted due to higher plant numbers but it would be easier to do a sea of green, by the sounds of it you have plenty of potential cuttings, these could be taken put into ziplock bags an stored in the fridge whilst the landlord is there ( never attempted this but have read its possible to keep them alive in the fridge ) The other option to use in the future is to use modular screens and scrog, if timed right you could grow them to a size that you could hide easily during a visit, you would then have roughly 3 weeks more veg time if needed before having to flick 12/12 , you would need a 8 week strain unless you could find somewhere to dry the bud or you could delay the inspection for a week.

To hide smoke / grow smells from a landlord I used to cook a bacon butty 10 mins before the inspection and accidentally ofc burn the toast, bacon and burnt toast smells pretty much cover everything for short periods of time I have found.

Is there no chance you can leave the plants with a mate overnight and then setup and put them back the minute the landlord leaves?

We suspect the landlords visit is due to excessive power usage, so he is going to be snooping around a fir bit. 1m squared may not sound like much, but it means each plant is a meter accross half a meter deep, and about a meter tall. That would need to be one hell of a wardrobe! tongue.gif

So far the plan is:
Take cuttings
Destroy all other evidence
Stash cuttings
Grow from clones after he fucks off.

I'm not expecting another visit ever provided power usage stays down. Currently they are vegging 24/7 under a 600W HPS. Goign to veg the clones under a 300W CFL for a week or 2, then put them on 12/12 user the HPS. This should limit power usage to 300W at any stage.

So how low down can the clone be cut?
Should it be a single limb, or can it have secondary growth?
GrowStar
Perhaps I could suggest an 18/6 veg cycle the next time around? In the long run you will get more growth per watt on a bill that is a quarter cheaper than what you're spending on your setup at the moment. The extra 6 hours of light a day is growth that does not maximise its potential. Its the law of diminishing returns. Hope the landlord is not too much of a problem, if he is just kick him in the nuts!!!

Read that cannabase link I posted lol.gif

What a shame to lose all those weeks of veging. If unable to stash the plants with a friend or in a forest...how about cutting them right back so there is no foliage, just stalks. Stick a few fresh fern fronds in the pots before your LL arrives. I think your plants will grow leaves quickly once again due to the roots you've worked hard developing. Maybe even lots of lovely new scroggin shoots.
dogzilla
If they are so massive... I'd cut em back, stick em in some bin bags, wrap em up, stick em in the corner with loads of junk. Then take the tent down, remove all paraphernalia. Style it out and then set the whole lot up again. Your plants will be rooted and will grow back to that size much quicker than a clone I'm guessin.
wappagrower
i had a house survey of the council, i just black bagged them all night before, placed in wardrobe, dropped tent and made sure there was no offending equipment hanging around, opened all my windows and just chilled. I dont thing he will be checking on electric bill unless its in with rent. Some landlords are just paranoid about there investment. He wont snoop in wardrobes.
Mr. Sparkle
Most landlords now are doing 3 month inspections, it's normal letting agent policy same as the 6 month tenancy which is all you can usually get unless your lucky.

My inspection goes like this:

knock knock

hello

how are things with the house?

lovely thanks

ok bye!

and that's it smile.gif

What makes you think the landlord has any idea about the power usage? it doesn't sound like you are using a lot to me nea.gif Is the electric in with the rent?

does anyone think that'll actually work ?

Mr. Sparkle
Dunno TS, it sounds like a lot of stress to me g.gif
barry_scott
It's a loft grow and the plants won't physially fit through the hatch.
OMH
In that case why not black bag them and hide them behind some junk in a dark corner of the loft? In the unlikely event that he even bothers to look up there (remove stepladders to a mates first), he is not going to bother looking in every bag and box in every corner of the attic. As long as the tent and everything is gone thats probably all he will look for if he suspects anything. If they are still in veg then there should be no smell.
Mono
Barry, he ain't gonna go in your loft...

Just stick it all in a dark corner of loft and cover with a tarp or similar....

Or move house if you want to grow, if this bloke does want to inspect the loft and whole house every 3 months he's gonna be a right fly in the ointment...

Monk...x
barry_scott
I don't know where people have got this 'every 3 months' idea from. That is definatly NOT the case. The flat has been using excess power and he is coming round to find out why. We don't know that he's goign to look in the loft but there was NOTHING up there, and if he looks he will expect to see NOTHING again.
wappagrower
Is the electric in with the rent? When he turns up hav everything on, when your in the kitchen stop the dryer and empty out 1 pair of boxers and put a towel into dry, he will just think your a mong. rofl.gif rofl.gif When he winges ask him to put you a meter in, so you pay for what you use.
barry_scott
Thats pretty much what i was planning to do smile.gif

Going to investigate the 'hide them in a dark corner' option and see if its actually viable.
WEEDSTAR
hey mate people are getting the every 3 month thing from there past experience this is what usually happens that's all. If you put everything in the corner and its dark then all is good. if you need ladders to get up there... ie no pull down ladder from the catch then its going to be hard to go up there

For smells before he comes as some one said proper burn some toast. it honks more then weed and stays around for along time

and If he checks up there at a guess it may smell so you may want to invest in some oust blast a full tin up there.smile.gif

Thats the way forward me finks especially with all this piggy flu about wink.gif

The plants are in the corner in binbags, under insulation. Even if he goes up there with a 20million candle torch (we've all been tempted to buy one!) he won't see it.
Putting the plants on their sides was essential to hiding them. Do you think 2 days lights off on their side with no air is goign to fuck them up?
Thanks guys, i'll let you know how things go tongue.gif
TwoRoach
Good luck either way mate.
*BANG*
easy mate, not ssure about your last question but why not unbag them during the least likely hours he will pop round (I.E.11PM-6AM) AND RE-BAG THEM WHEN THAT TIME IS UP?HASTLE BUT I REKON THE PLANTS MIGHT SWET OUT A BIT IN A bag for that long.
ps.just realised about the bold font, soz im reeeally stoned and couldn't be bothered to re-type it back...even tho this bit probs took longer rofl.gif
eri
I was growing in a loft last time around and just turned the light off and put the ladder out of sight lol.gif

I wasn't using a filter either, pretty dodgy really. They didn't even glance at the loft hatch though, last thing on their minds. I'm sure you'll be fine.

I don't think your plants will be very happy for 2 whole days without air though.... why not just stack cardboard boxes around them?
Mono
Hope it goes okay for you Barry...

Apparently the visit was prompted by excess power usage. They didn't check anywhere really, they just told us we were using waaay too much power. To be fair they have been on veg under a 600W for a long time now. Going to stick them on 12/12 tonight to halve the power usage. Also going to stick them on the light part of their cycle during the night time. Does anyone know ofany problems with doing this? Will warm nights and cold days confuse the plants? tongue.gif

Thanks guys!
andypotatoes
That's good news mate. Imagine how much you would be kicking yourself now if you'd ditched them. smile.gif

Hi All,
I personally would never get a key "pay as you go" meter again excl.gif My electricity was costing me an arm and a leg once we changed to the key meter. It seems that we was paying a higher rate for your electricity than you do with a normal meter....Alot more. sad.gif

any chance you could give him a few extra ££ to cover it ?

I'd tell him you use a pc 24/7 and anything else you could think up that would sound feasable to him.

then when you veg again use a 20/4 cycle wink.gif

nice one.
many years ago my landlord offered to sell me my house 3 times, i was a gamber and would never have been accepted for a morgage, they called me in one day, they threw it at me, 15 years old house, gave me 100% morgage no questions asked. i was the last one in the town before the landlord moved out. i moved but i'm still in my own house.
barry_scott
Being in a bag on their side for a bit has done them no favours, but at least i still have them.
They have closed up alot since being removed from the net. I've tried to trim some fan leaves from the centre. Do you guys think i should be tieing them down with string, or should i just leave them be?

Sticking them on 12/12 tonight.

im watching from the sidelines, ive not much to say but like to know what happens with landlord visits wink.gif

dont know about the plants but if theres lots of grow sites, id leave things as they are unless height restrictions come into play.

Why are you trimming fan leaves?
sky
are they just sat in the loft with a shade over them?
SuperSilverCheese
Yeah do a bit of trimming inside if they've closed up, leaving it could lead to budrot later on. Or just tie themm down like you mentioned.

I had to do this recently too so here's what I did, hire a van for the morning of the visit dismantle tent put everything in the van and park somewhere quiet. Let housing manager in for a look let them out and get stuff back in. Whole thing takes less than 3 hours not including time waiting for fucking housing officer.

More recently I couldn't hire a van in time so had to transport the plants to my mum's shed and leave them over night while hiding growing equipment in the flat. Plants didn't like overnighting in a cold shed and a couple hermed also being in binliners they get very humid so need to watch for rot.

Pain in the arse basically.

I just found out to my plesant suprise that a 90L tropical fish tank uses the same amount of power as a 400w light in 12/12 (yup, the 90L tank 200w but its on all day. Perhaps a decoy??? Get a cold water tank and lie when the landlord get there... stih a heater in but don't turn it on and cook your fish. The landlork isn't going to put his fingers in the tank... get piranhas!!!

In this era of energy saving I have sound some energy saving lightbulbs for around the house. The brightness (I don't know what the actual lumen count is) of a 60w normal bulb is replicated by an 11w energy saving bulb. Change every bulb in the house and it will make a big difference.

Keep your refriderator and freexer full at all times. Even if this can't be done with food fill it with bottles of watter. Keep old coke bottles and fill them up. Once they are cold they keep the fridge and freexer cold instead of the eletricity.

Oh, and consider picking up a smaller light for earlier phases of the grow... I' m alternating between a 250, 400 and 600 during the grow. You inly need extra ballests and bulbs... its a bit of rewiring but you get over it smile.gif

Yeah i was VERY tempted to stay up for that. Probably a good idea i didn't after drinking my way to 4am then having a couple of splifs, i was in whitey territory spliff.gif
The race was a bit of a disappointment. Championship has nearly been decided, no rossi-lorenzo battle, hayden gets screwed again, and toseland was every bit as useless as i've come to expect! unsure.gif

Yeah the plants are just in the loft with a light over them and ventelation hooked up. The whole area is huge, and light proof so i might aswell have minimal equipment should i need to stash everything again. We have economy 7 electric where it gets charged at a much lower rate between 00:30am and 7:30am. The plants are now on a 12/12 cycle from 19:30 -> 07:30. Hopefully the 19:30 -> 00:30 bit will just look like evening power usage; cooking, microwave, TV, computers etc.

I've been removing big fan leaves from the middle, as now the plants are no longer spread out by a net the fan leaves are geting squashed, not light, and stopping new growth from getting at the light. I think i will tie them down. It can't hurt to try to get as much use out of the light as possible.

Thanks for all the input guys! stoned.gif
Joint hogger
not a bad race, lorenzo balls it up & takes out poor hayden & its good to see that mouthy git stoner getting back in the game whistling.gif

Barry, i wouldnt trim any of the fan leaves off mate unless theyre fucked, theyre the plants power source, ie - photosynthesis !
