Opened my Drobe this morning and knew straight away that my intake inline fan had stopped. Dead.
Oh-oh!

I was ready for it, it needed a good kick to get going the other day and has been farting ever since and sort of going dead slow. My good mate down the road said "Strip it and clean it, or bring ot over and I will".
So I looked at it for a few mins just now. Now you lot know I'm as much use with a set of tools as a dead jellyfish. I wouldn't know one end of a screwdriver from t'other.

Guess what?
I thought, Fekk it, it can't be that hard, can it?

Seems not! Stripped, WD40, plenty wiping and cleaning, a quick blast with the hoover.... its working like a good'un. Just got to put it all back together when its dry again.
Easy!

Made me realise: Maintainance is vital.
This could have been a "Cannabis Grow Causes Housefire" headline. Thing was smelling of extremely hot dust, and there were cakes of compacted dust jamming it completely, which would have gone up in flames so easy. I think I just saved the day, really.

Maintain, or burn. Innit. wink1.gif

And its so so easy! Just do it, peeps!

Nice one, Arnie. thumbsup.gif

¿You didn't blast all the grease from the bearings with the WD40 did you? unsure.gif

There's a great thread somewhere here on UK420 that tells you how to replace the bearings with new ones - they're drop-in sealed units - the ones used in either roller-blades or skateboards are just the right size to fit RVK-type fans. thumbsup.gif

Didn't see any grease Scribble? unsure.gif
Its an Lti fan, not an RVK. Its running like a charm but I have yet to re-assemble it. Which is the next job on my list today, so.......

Interesting this, i need to create some sort of dust blocker for my drobe as the fans only been going 4 weeks and it's as Arnie describes pinch.gif .
I tried using some tights but they won't fit over the 5" hole without pushing it back in the drobe and i';m worried about them getting sucked in.

Anyone got any ingenius ideas to stop the afformentioned dust fire? spliff.gif

The bearings are in a little self-contained 'O'-shaped component - with them being (presumably) sealed units, there shouldn't be any danger of blasting the grease out of them with the likes of WD40 now I come to think about it. thumbsup.gif

e²a: You could make an effective dust blocker by placing some cooker hood filter or something similar over the fan intake.

here is the thread on changing the bearings
