Wondering if anyone is or has tried Electric Dehydrators? Noticed you can get commercial farm food dehydrators on ebay, could cut weeks out of drying ??

Seeing as it takes only around 2 weeks to dry, what you gonna save and why

All you are doing is ruining your bud for the sake of a few days sad.gif

How does it ruin the bud?
The time and smell are my main reasons for drying quicker..

It could in theory, but it would also most likely reduce your buds to brittle, dry, tasteless or hay-tasting crap and ruin all your hard efforts.

Everything I've read from the pros to friends whose smoke I admire say SLOWER IS BETTER FOR DRYING. It allows the oils and terpenes to mature/develop which brings a better, tastier, smellier and smoother smoke. Using any kind of dehydrator will do exactly the opposite imo.

i.e. don't bother, be patient, it's worth the wait - unless you can't, in which case spend money on hardware to ruin your weed. Your choice smile.gif

Ive used a dehumdifier to help dry a crop of cheese out, if its set really low (the lowest setting) and facing away from the crop it takes about 5-10 days, followed by a couple of days curing in cardboard boxes, and tastes just the same as normally dried herb. You have to be careful though, check it every few hours.

Thats my experience anyway. yinyang.gif

you want to dry your bud slowly to let the chlorophyll break down, even after you've cut down your plant, so long as the cells contain moisture the chlorophyll remains active, with no source of food it begins to break down. if no moisture is present, the cells just cease activity (die) and the chlorophyll remains, and your bud tastes harsh and smells like hay, the chlorophyll still breaks down with a cure, but takes MUCH MUCH longer. so the quicker you dry your bud, the longer it takes for the chlorophyll to break down, and the harsher your bud tastes. someone did a thread of one of these on overgrow years ago, and pretty much came up with the same conclusion as owd's post, why ruin your bud and months of work for the sake of a week or two pinch.gif

afaik, you can make a dehydrator from an incandescent light bulb and a rack, give it a tin tray to block light from the bulb. (Incandescants are still available, I bought loads yesterday.)

Dehydrators are often used for drying water cured bud, although some people use them for stuff like drying bananas, where's the fun in that?

I have a "airer" in my drybox, i have it on a timer 15 mins on 15 off. this keeps the humidity at around 40% and the temps around 10-20, i draw air thru two small carbon filters from a paint spray mask into the box with a small fan and out thru another homemade carbon filter ( i draw from a damp ish garage 60% ish today) it drys ready for curing in 3-4 days i then switch the light off, and the extractor to come on and "bump" for 15 mins every 4 hrs for the next week or so, then into jars for storage, works great for me.

I have read here and there that dehydrators run to hot. Yes, they will dry your buds fast, but if they are to hot they will also destroy/vaporize the TCH out.

Couple more.

1.2m tent with oild filled radiator and a small fan and carbon scrubber running on low settings. This will dry your buds quickly for you. But as mentioned the chlorophyll does not break down. It will with a cure in jars. Darkness also helps.
