Hi
I have a 250 blue enviro and a 250 hps and I am trying to grow some skunk#1 which i know is stretchy
In order to keep stretch to a minimum would it be a good idea to use my blue enviro for veg and the 1st 2-3 weeks of 12/12 then swap over to using the hps? or swap over as soon as i switch to 12/12?

I would use your HPS as it's more effecient and puts out more lumenms.

thanks for your reply
are you saying that the hps is that much more effecient i should use it from the start? even tho the enviro has a blue spectrum and is of the same wattage?

Bump - whats the vertict? would you use a 250w enviro for veg and then 250 hps for flower or stick with hps from the start?

can't work out how to post links but randalizer started a great thread on the effects of light frequencies...
i just started some seeds under a blue cfl cause i was afraid of burning them with my 400w MH... HOWEVER i wish i'd just used the MH and some shade netting. nothing terrible happened but the plants looked happier once they had the increased lumens. whilst i do think the spectrum will affect the stretch levels i think the lumen levels will too so really the ideal situation would be to get a 250w MH bulb. not a huge fan of CFL personally. if i absolutely had to chose i's go for the HPS straight through as i spent a number of years doing just that with no ill effects. if height is an issue then supercrop/scrog or get a short indica.

cheers for that reply m8
i spent money on an 250 enviro so i could setup a veg room, i just thought it would help my sk#1 at the early stages and with the stretch but if i am better off using my 250 hps il do just that.
sounds like super cropping and bending time

enviro's/fluoro's are great for keeping really tight node spacing in veg, but of course you need to keep them really close (like 2" max) also overall growth will be less, but node spacing will be tighter. the day you change to 12/12 go to hps, as the stretch will mean that your plants will grow into your envirolite and burn, either that or you have to keep it further away, which will defeat the object and cause more stretch than the hps.

that answers things perfectly thank you scraglor, sk#1 is known for its larger node spacings, so il use the enviro to my advantage then as soon as i switch to 12/12 bring on the hps
