OK so we've got a very nice yield coming along within the next week and was just asking for a little advice!

Iv got a nice big cardboard box, thick sides etc, kind of like a small, light mdf cupboard. It has string already in to hang the buds from etc etc etc . So basically the box is ready for the buds. Now my problem is where to put it...
Please tell me if it is a bad idea putting my bud box in the ceiling of my loft, my loft has wooden support beams, no actually ceiling, and it would just sit up there nicely until its ready.

I need to know if the climate would be too cold, not humid enough, etc. I dont see much problem with it but obviously would like to hear you guys first before anything actually goes down?

THANKS EVERYONE!

Thats what im thinking, there is a tumbledryer in the garage and it boasts the temp up a nice bit, maybe have that running once a day or something? the buds will be Inside the box too so there will be more heat inside keeping it as constant as possible. I need help
*BANG*
hya mate, bth it's hard to guesstimate your temps.if you could report back a reading to us,that would be great, failing that, get some card board boxes, like u said, string some string acrros the top of box from side to side (do this at several different heights to creat some sort of shelves the buds can hang from)get your box, place buds on string makin sure they are not touchin each other (this can cause mold) get a small oscilating fan, point it towards the floor (and NOT onto buds, this will make em crispy on outside and not the inside...aka badly dryed buds)place fan pointing at floor (to moover air around) open box everyday to have a look at em and wait a week to around 2weeks (maybe even three weeks if its a nice slow druy) and spark up! wink.gif

It is worth taking a little time to consider where you are going to dry your bud. This may be an easy decision for some people and difficult for others. Ideally you're looking for an environment which is :

 15 - 18 degrees C and has low air exchange.
 Humidity should be kept below 50.
 Dark.

If the drying temperature is too low then the buds may contract fungus which will ruin your crop or at least allow it to dry very slowly.
On the other hand if the temperature is too high then you'll end up flash drying the buds which will result in a harsh taste and a lower quality smoke. You're looking at a drying time of between 10 and 21 days. Stems should snap easily when completely dry and the buds should not have a direct breeze blowing on them.

Wouldn't that depend on how it's vented? Mine goes straight outside...

mine doesnt go straight outside, but im sure if my box is sealed off from the garage and its atmospheric conditions, sitting on the wooden beams, it would prvent the humidity whilst keeping a FAIRLY constant temp.

At the moment my buds dry underneath my bed in a box which can hold around 2 ounces comfortably (dry weight), They are hanging from lengths of string with small breather holes at the top of the box. I check up on it everyday and it has dried some veeeery nice weed within those conditions. Obviously the tempreture is more stable under my bed but f it.

Im gunna just have to do it, as the parents do not like me punking my room, sorry, my HOUSE out!

I will update you with pictures etc when I have made the final plan. Worth a try I guess!

seeing as we are on the subject of box/loft drying....... i'm drying my half of our tweed in a box in my loft which is actualy in my house..... surely it must get a tad humid in the box itself..... would anyone consider putting a few of those silicone moisture absorber things you get in shoe boxes in there????? unsure.gif

yeah, if it goes straight outside, it wont have much of a heating effect in the area though. either way, no good imo.

can you not just put an oil heater in the loft?

Silica gel will dry it out to quick dude.. They should be ok in a box, the cardboard wicks moisture away, cut some air holes in.
I cut a big flap in the side at the bottom, then leave the top open slightly ( in the dark.)

Try and get conditions as close to kafkas quote in barts post ^^^
