Hiya. Nice results.
Firtstly, how much butane. With a honey bee extractor they are not very big so 2 cans should be plenty. I personally don't like the way it all just drains stright out of the bottom so I use a container like a coffee pot where the trim sits in the liquid butane for a while to make sure that all of the goodies dissolve in the butane before I filter it. Saying that though - honey bees are less of a chore as there are less stages through it filtering it itself.
Budder. I'm no expert with this but I'll try it out next week when I crop and post up my thoughts next weekend. To reiterate what I've said before though - I don't really think that I'll get on with it. I see it as a way to try to speed up the curing process and I've never been one for adding heat to speed up a process with hash making. But that's my thoughts.
Solidity of oil. Obviously it is more runny when it still has traces of butane in it. As mentioned freezing it, taking it out and tacking it about a bit and repeating a couple of times gets rid of all the ramaining butane. It is still quite hard to handle then though. As the oil ages it gets harder and forms a budder all by itself - I think a better process. Leaving it in the dish before scraping up so that it is in a really thin layer and letting it dry for a while changes it too, as you have seen. Then when you scrape it up it is in crystal form but warm it up and it turns liquidy again.
Rolling. I don't like smearing it on the inside or the outside of papers. Again personal choice but I don't think it smokes very well like that. I lay out a joint as normal with the skin, roach and backy/weed. Then I tack a bit of oil on a knife and warm it from below, taking care not to let it bubble - just turn more liquidy. I then smear that on to the backy/weed and roll it up. This makes the oil in the centre of the joint and it burns better. There are pictures of all of this in the 'hippy crack' link in my sig.
Happy oiling
