Hi all.

I'm looking for a solution to my clone area heat problem. All I really need is to use a computer fan to extract the heat as it's such a small box, but I'm not sure of the wiring. I have a few old PC power supplies lying around, so would I just take a feed from any of the molex leads coming from my PS to my fan? They are all 12v aren't they? But I'm a little concerned about the amps.

I just use a phone charger with the end cut off, if you get a dc adaptor with a variable voltage switch you can use that to adjust the fan speed.

i use a 7.2v charger from a old RC car, works great on my cutting box pc fan

Thanks guys, but a question....so can I use any old adapter even if it's less than 12v? Also, are all adapters converting down to DC? I've located an old adapter for an old router, it says it's 12v output, but doesn't say whether it's AC or DC.

Thanks, it would make more sense than using a great big Power Supply!

I'm just setting up a pc fan kit and have them running of a 12v regulated variable voltage adapter, it works fine but I don't get what to do with the yellow lead on some of these fans?

Also can I use the voltage switch to slow the fans without messing them up?

The extra wire on the 3-wire PC fans is for measuring the speed. wink1.gif

You're best of using the 12V (yellow) rail on an old PC PSU - you just need to bridge the 'PS-ON' pin to GND (black) on the motherboard connector with a paperclip or similar to make it power up when plugged in. (The other rails are 5V and 3.3V wink1.gif)

Hi, I'm a newbie to this can anybody post a picture of one of the Ac Adaptor's wired up to a fan as I don't understand how you can control the speed of the fan with it, as the ones I've looked at on the internet don't have switches to change between speeds or a dial!!! I don't have a clue, any help would be appreciated russian.gif
