Here's a LINK to how I came to still have a bucket of brown water with no 'settling' of the trichs. Used a sieve and old t-shirt to filter.

Any ideas ? I think there are trichs in the water, but why isn't it settling ? Or where did I f-up ?

¿I'm no expert at hash-making, but won't the mesh size of those things you're using be far too large to catch the trichs?

I would imagine that they will collect loads of the crude bashed-up particulate crap from the mixture and let loads of trichs through - I reckon that you need to use a finer filter material to catch the trichomes.

I was only trying to filter the crap out. Trying to greate a 'gumby bucket'. Then the plan was to syphon off the water leaving a sluge of trichs at the bottom. Put remainder into jar and allow to settle further.

edit - is it worth pouring this er 'crap' through coffe filters ?

Making bubblehash doesn't have to be totally ghetto - get yourself one of these biodiesel filters for about 6 quid (for a 100u, 15 quid for 75u). It's cheap, fits perfectly over a B&Q bucket and does the job you need it to.

Google 'biodiesel filters' from pages in the UK and you'll come up with cheap filters.

With any luck the majority of the colouring in that water will be suspended trichomes - I don't see what hard using a paper coffee filter would do.

Nice idea ninja. I'll try this lot through coffee filters and use a diesel filter next time. Thanks for all help here.

Let the water settle for a few days,then syphon off the water and the good stuff/sludge on the bottom it ready to collect and dry.

I'll give it a go Ratdog. I've taken a pint glass full out so I can monitor any settling.

also its worth having a read of TILT`s thread on trichome suspension and the collection of every last drop of the good stuff from the water ..i tried his boiling off method to collect the froth ..its like marmite but when added to a joint it enhances it 100% imo

try to dry out the stuff on the t-shirt , even with a bit of plant matter in , t'will still be a reasonable smoke .....way better than the trim you used..

Nice tip GreenNinja - I just come across an ebay retailer selling these - 75u, 100u, 200u, 400u and 600u - all less than a 10er. He's also got some finer 'sock' filters - 10u, 5u and 1u.

I gave up on cheap hash a while ago because of fuck-ups on filtering, but I'm wondering whether to give it ago again. I reckon a 200u to filter out the plant material then a 75u as a catcher maybe with another filter through a 10u sock to get the finest grade?? What do you reckon?

Could these be used for dry sift as-well as ice hash? Maybe the 100u?

They'll work for dry sift or bubble. Ideally you'd use 3 - a 200, 100 and 75 (they don't make smaller sizes). The 200 removes all your rubbish, then the 100 will collect everything from 199-100u and the 75 will collect 99-75 (high quality). Bubbleman uses additional screens between 200 and 100u to make the 120u and 90u grades purer by pulling out more rubbish (200, 160).

But for ghetto style, cheapness in the very least I'd do a 200 and a 100. 12 quid and you're rocking....but for the extra 15 quid it's worth the extra level of purity in the 75.

Hope that makes some kind of sense!!

Whilst I'm warbling...I've tried using silkscreens for sifting...43T, 53T and 77T (about 150u, 125u, 75u respectively) and not had much joy. Screens cost between 10 and 20 quid each and were meant to be a cheapo alternative to a bubblebox but just didn't work out, or I can't get my technique right. HOWEVER - you could use them as bubblehash filters if you were very careful about it and poured slowly so no liquid stayed in the frame.

And finally....you can buy micron mesh materials in the UK. Use the keywords "micron mesh" and you'll find stuff. I called to get a quote and the place I spoke to in the NW will do it for around 30 quid a meter (not cheap, but bloody useful). Not ordered any myself yet but they have every micron size you'd ever need.

EDIT: Those socks are only good for removing the contaminants - so useful for a 200u bag (I've got one and use it) but no good at all for collecting trichromes as they get stuck in the fibrous material. For a ghetto bubblebag set I'd get a 200 sock filter as a work bag and then two bucket filters for collecting trichs.

What id do is chuck what you got off the t-shirt back in the bucket of water mix it up and filter it again, into another bucket
I use 15 denier tights, (or silkscreen from work, the mesh is a bit fine on that though).

If you put it through a coffee filter as it is it'll come out well green., I reckon.

I too now want a bio-diesel filter. I use B&Q buckets already..

Try and get urdelf some bubble sacs the more filters the better, they may seem expensive but they pay for themselves in the long run

They isolater u get in the last two bags (45 and 25 micron) of a serven bag bubble sac blows ur mind it is the most potent hash and tastes lovely, £160 gib but after a few runs there paid for

that green shit I knocked up ain't too bad. Smokes and burns in like the solid in the early 90's - before they started putting plastic in it. Lookin forward to doin it right next time.

This is an interesting little thread. I've got about 15 fucking huge 7ft girlies which are no way gonna finish flowering in time outside. I'm gonna get a few diesel filters
