ive been using it for ages..... since the first beta (yes im testing it for microsoft)
very stable operating system havent had a single trojan or virus in windows yet looks great with a lot of features from xp and vista uses less system resources than vista but looks better easy to use.
the aero peek feature is great... and im using the 64 bit version and it real smooth.
my suggestion.... GET IT ITS THE BEST OS THAT MICROSOFT HAVE MADE

It's OK, as Window$ goes - don't harbour any illusions though - it's just Vi$ta SP3.
Vi$ta was a total dog when it first came out, and became vaguely tolerable when SP1 came out for it - it's not *that* bad now.
Win7's arse is just as wide as Vi$ta's, but M$ have obviously spent some time cleaning up the UI and making it more responsive. You still need at least 1GB to run it in any kind of comfort.
I just use Win (XP,Vi$ta64Ultimate,Win764RC) for games - I use Linux/BSD/OpenSolaris for anything of note.
e2a: Aero etc., is nice by M$'s standards, but it sucks arse compared to Linux's Compiz.

Yes mate, I am running it. Runs absolutely fine, no problems what so ever. I never ran Vista, so upgraded straight to Win 7. Works a dream, and all games and programs are working. Even tho most of them aren't apparently supported by windows 7 (don't even have to run in compatability mode).
My "version" is the Ultimate, registered until march next year, and working fine. Its the final RTM release so pretty much besides a few tweaks and all the file dates being changed its essentially the final release. Oh and 64x version too.
Nice for me too as its free up the rest of my RAM which I couldn't use with Windows XP32. Processor temp went up about 3 or 4 degC, but my PC also needed a hell of a clean so I don't know weather its just time + dust.....(by the way, I did clean it just after installing Windows 7, so it may not be down to the os).
Anyway, I recommend it!
Peace

I have heard that alot of sound drivers aint supported in it though
But i have a HP laptop so hopefully i can get drivers on there
Do the same drivers that were released for Vista work on W7?

I had none of my drivers discs, i.e. sound card, gfx card etc, and everything installed through windows V impressed. Even better it installed the driver for my Canon Powershot G10 when I plugged it in.....I couldnt find the drivers for it on canons website, so 10/10 for Microshit from me.
Peace

¿Wouldn't that appear just a a generic USB storage device, rather like a USB Flash memory stick?

Windows 7 is nice stuff.. A lot better then Vista I find. I think my system uptime is like 2 weeks max on this copy without any probs.
I was lucky when they announced the pre-order a few months back. I pre-ordered a copy of ultimate for £69.. Will be the first O/S I own apart from when I bought Suse A few years ago

I hated Vista. Biggest bag of shite MS have ever released.
Windows 7 x64 kicks ass. I've been on it for about 6 months now and it's stable, quick and doesn't have all the UAC bullshit (it's there, just handled properly now).
It's what I would call the first proper OS since XP. I recommend it wholeheartedly on the UI improvements alone. Two thumbs up from me - and I'm a very hard to please angry spod

¿Did you do an in-place upgrade over Vi$ta or did you do a nice clean fresh install on an empty formatted partition?

No - that's a good thing - upgrading over a previous version of the OS is a nasty way to go about it (it doesn't seem to stop a lot of people from doing it, though ) .

M$ lost me when I found out that if Windows decides it's pirated, it will cripple your system, to say nothing of all the DRM shite built into it. Since I only surf/email and listen to music, Linux (Ubuntu) has been the way forward ... free and with some kick-ass progs too.
That said, we got the Windows 7 betas at work ages ago, and my guys seem OK with it ....

Yeah, had that on my copy of xp, then got a ligit copy of vista with my laptop I aint had the problem with windows 7 yet, seems to be working good
I did try Ubuntu as i know a few people that use it but i couldnt really get used to it and didnt like how half the software i had didnt work on it, i know there are ways around it but personally im just too lazy to work them out.
I have always stuck with windows because its what i know

Its shiny and has lots of lovely little features. Unfortunately (my version of ultimate at least) is glitchy as fuck.
If I pop in my USB cruzer stick and allow it to search for downloadable mobile apps, the window panes start twitching out. The windows also autoexpand themselves for some reason and the latest WMP is fucking shit at sorting out your library: of about 200 albums that were automatically sorted fine on vista about 80 ended up in 'unknown'.

Aye, initially it doesn't seem like that much of an upgrade, but then when think about it (+ just look at it) it's beautiful!! I'm running it on my laptop that came with vista - 3 years ago now; first day I downgraded to XP (as i loved xp) and vista was slow as fook and that UAC was doin my head in... The win7 install couldn't have been better - installed pretty much all the drivers (saving me downloading them all from dell site) and was ready to go first run! Such a nice user interface, speed is great, networking is better... Just effectively what I assume they aimed for with vista, it is beautiful!

Got an advance copy of 64-bit Ultimate the other day - was very annoyed that it wouldn't upgrade the Release Candidate I had on before - I had to do a clean install altogether, reinstall all apps etc... But I do like it so much more than Vista/XP - the taskbar is handy, it has excellent device recognition - got my SLR as well as all my phones, and every piece of hardware but one - my soundcard (it's one of the first Creative X-Fis so I was surprised by that) and is much more pleasant to use - I find myself the auto window resize by dragging to an edge, or the top/bottom of screen, very handy.
Only complaint - they only sent me one product key so I can't put it on my laptop too

Which is nice, but be aware that it can only be used in software emulation mode due to the way that the driver architecture was changed during Vi$ta.

I own a macbook pro and will be getting windoze 7 and creating a partition for it at some point. Simply because I occasionally need to run something that only happens in microsoft world. If this thread isn't too out of date and I remember I'll report back here on how that goes.
I may run want to run a Linux os someday. Any recomendations?
