From what you say, it sounds like a variant of the Autopot system.

Yep - it's an Autopot. Nope - it doesn't come with - nor does it need - a timer. It's full name is the 'Autopot Easy2Grow 2 Pot Kit' - it comes with a 47 litre reservoir.
Here is a diagram showing how the system works:
That's really about all I know about them - I've never used one myself, although I'm assured by ones who have that they are quite good - reliable, simple and easy-to-use.

If they're going yellow, like from the bottom up especially, it means that they're simply hungry - up the amount of food that you're giving them maybe to 3/4 of the full amount.

I have an autopot system and it's the mutts nutz as far as I am concerened, I have used NFT and wilma systems before but this one is by far the easiest to use.
The only thing I will say is that you need to keep the res and tubes clean as even though there is a filter inside the tank it is worth cleaning it out and doing the tubes every couple of weeks to keep it free running.
Nothing else needed as once you have set you nutes and the ph on filling there is nothing else to do untill the nutes run out and it's time to refill.
One bit of advice is to use an air pump and stone to keep the water active and fresh it also helps keeping the mixing going on as the action of the bubbles rising keeps it all on the move.
The best of luck mate.
