HI guys,

I managed to get my hands on a 400w digi ballast VERY cheap. Now the only issue I have is that my current set up has the wiring from the ballast and then the 3 wires and fed into the bulb holder and screw onto there and the earth to the reflector as i (try) to show in my pic.

My question is am I ok and cutting the female part of the cable from my ballast (that I think would normally plug into new reflectors?) and then wiring the cable myself to the reflecter and bulb holder like i currently have?

Is there any problem with doing this or do I need to get a reflector with male IEC socket in it to use the ballast?

As its digi and different from my oldschool ballast i just want to make sure.

Any help would be great.

Hi, rather than cutting up your lovley digi's leads could you not just wire an old computer power lead to your reflector ? this might be better in the long run as you wouldn't be chopping leads up if you got a new reflector in future. Hope this helps wink.gif

Hey Mug! I know - that's what I thought about reflector etc but I don't have an old wire about although I could just check in the IT department storeroom tomorrow! smile.gif If I cant find a spare wire am I ok doing as I mentioned though - this is safe?

It's safe aslong as you make sure to match the wires up, and their secure...know it sounds simple but I've managed not to fuck up with the same advice spliff.gif

cheers for that - I had to unwire and rewire when feeding the cable through the tent etc so I took a pic of the wiring to remember where each went - simple but good trick!

I've no idea, but it's probably one of the China-made 'Techone'-type ones that's just has that label stuck on it, and from what I've read about them - they seem to work OK. thumbsup.gif

I was just curious because I wondered who the hell in China got the idea to make a 'Hacienda'-branded ballast complete with a sticker with the Hacienda's (Manchester night club) colour scheme on it. lol.gif

hehe yeah I seen them about before on a couple of sites and I thought of the nightclub etc was funny. Oh well once I get this wire sorted I'll see if it works. For £20 I cant go too wrong I guess! smile.gif
