well just moved into a new place and theres not much place to put 2 of my tents up .so i was thinking of the 1 for flower and heres where my question comes in .i have a cupboard under the stairs its very big but low ceiling and has a light for it and light switch and i was think do u think i could replace my light fitting in the cupboard with a e40 and a 125 watt eco light(cfl)i thought i could as its only like wiring a plug to disconnect the light which is in there but i dont know anything about amps wattage or nothing ,the reason i want to do this is the lack of plug sockets in the cupboard so if u know if it can be done let me kno will you please dnt laugh at my question lol.gif i just want to kno if its safe to do ?p.s before anyone ask without the reflector lol.gif

Check with a qualified sparky to be safe, I would'nt risk it over 100w to be honest but one of the electricians will be on soon

firstly the lamp wouldnt be safe just hanging from a fitting like a normal household one.
Secondly, if your thinkin of veggin or keeping mums in there you'll need a decent airflow for optimum plant health.

electrically it would be fine. most lighting circuits are 5 or 6 amp, unless you're running another 1000watts of lighting on the same circuit its no problem. always a good idea to replace as many other lights in the house with energy savers, cuts down bills, and puts less overrall load on the lighting circuit.

If you think about it, the standard batten or pendant lampholder can take up to 150watt bayonet cap lamp, so the wiring is ok with 125watt cfl

thats what i was thinking i couldnt see a problem with it just actually fixing the e40 holder to the ceiling would be the biggest probnlem i would of thort

fix the e40 to the reflector, and hang the refector on eezi-rollers or chains.

now i feel like right dumb ass lol.gif but the main reason i started this thread was that i didnt want blow any lights i had a felling i can be done just wanted sum1 to confirm it and give the confidence to do it so thanx every1

just to confirm it doesnt matter what wire goes where does it on a e40 lamp holder or does it ?also just relised i havent got a spare shade to hang it and i was thinking of hanging it the other way round with the e40 flush to the ceiling pointing downwards does anybody kno of anyway i could get this to stay in place i was thinking of screwing it in but that was when i thort the ceiling was wood but its not its plaster is there any thing i can use like no nails lol.gif but obiviously heat resistant or do anyone kno another way of doing this as the wiring wont hold the weight of eco lamp ,well i dont think it would anywayso basicly i want to replace the normal house light with a 125 watt cfl growlamp in the same postion as the house lamp ,i kno this is easy thing to do but i dont want to be half way doing it and come across a problem so id rather think and brain storm and plan it so it can be done quick without a hitch and of course want my electric off for as less time as poss !

the live, (red or brown) goes to the central pin, the neutral (black or blue) goes to the outer threaded part. to fix to plaster, if its stone or brick behind plaster, drill it, screw and rawlplug, if its hollow behind plaster, use a cavity fixing, like a spring toggle.
