If i've downloaded a movie and it on my pc and i want to put it onto a disc using nero 8 and it has to convert the file first then do lots of other bollocks and then burns it to the disc. This process takes about the time you are talking anywhere from 2 to 3 hours dependin on the length of the file.

If im copying an actual dvd using clone dvd with rgion free then a full dvd copied at x4 takes 10 to 15 mins.

¿Are you talking about just burning or transcoding as well? unsure.gif

should take just about 1 hour, 45mins to transcode 15mins burn.
Scribb|e
¿Surely, grandad, that would depend on your processor speed and the quality settings that you've selected? From what you've said, I presume that you must have a fairly fast CPU. wink1.gif

i have a dual core cpu overclocked to 3.33ghz and 2gig of ddr2 ram, it takes just under 20 mins to convert a 90min avi and 10-15mins to burn all in 30 -35 mins full project. i built the pc from scratch for the purpose of converting and burning films though so thats its main job, everything else comes second which is the reason its so quick.

I got bored with waiting so I bought a Philips DVD player that plays USB sticks, no more converting for me. It also plays xvid files so I could burn the raw file to a disk if I wanted to as well. It's the way to go.
Scribb|e
I agree - Aldi (and other places these days) - occasionally sell DVD players for around £30 or so that accept USB sticks, have a built-in card reader that can read CF cards, Memory Sticks and diverse others, and can play Xvid, DivX, MP4 and other video filetypes. thumbsup.gif

I don't bother with Xvids anymore, but Cinema Craft Encoder (1pass VBR) will take me about 40 mins to encode to mpeg2.

4 mins then to burn (16x) or I prefer to burn at 8x (10 mins).

¿Can you describe the difference between CinemaCraft's 3 basic products - CINEMA CRAFT® series CC-HDe, CINEMA CRAFT® Xtream series Presto & CINEMA CRAFT® Encoder series SP2, as their website isn't that instructive? wink1.gif

dvd in, window pops up, click 'burn a dud' ....nxt window, pick the film click continue.. . wee box sits in bottom right corner sayin 'encoding' n takes hours to reach 100%

just gona leave it goin thru the day doin all the one's i want done

'Transcoding' = 'Encoding' for the purposes of our discussion - transcoding means merely to convert one kind of video/audio to another. wink1.gif

The speed of transcoding depends mainly on the speed of your processor and how many cores it's got, and how long the video is, and to a lesser extent the program you're using to do it and what algorithm it's using, and what quality settings you have chosen (esp. 1-pass vs. 2-pass).

¿What kind and speed of processor do you have in your PC and what amount of RAM, dohicky? unsure.gif

the thing says CPU intel pentium dual core processor, enhanced intel speedstep technology 1.86GHz
MEMORY 2Gb/Go DDR2 SDRAM
HDD 250 GB/Go
on the one im using just now,. just bought my mum a laptop thats better cple month ago, double the memory etc so was thinkin of tryin hers out, see if its any quicker

If that's a Core2Duo processor, alongside 2GB of RAM it shouldn't really be *that* slow at transcoding - maybe there are a few things that could be tweaked to make it faster. wink1.gif

First of all, the most basic and obvious - ¿are you sure that it's using both cores when it's working?

I.e. ¿When it's busy transcoding, does the CPU graph in the System Monitor report that *both* cores are occupied 100%?

really do appreciate the effort here m8 but may as well b talkin greek lol.gif, think im gettin in ova my head, it workin but slowly think i'll jus let it go stoned.gif

done 2 since 1030am
cheers buddy cool.gif

Honestly, it's really simple what I'm asking. wink1.gif

What I want to know is - ¿when your PC is busy doing the video transcoding are the two graphs that show CPU usage in the Task Manager both pegged at or nearly at 100%?

The Task Manager is that box of graphs etc. that you can get up by pressing Cntrl-Alt-Delete (in XP) or Cntrl-Alt-Delete then choose 'Start Task Manager' in Vi$ta/Win7. wink1.gif

Here it is - the graphs are the top two:

Same here except mine are overclocked to 3.6 ghz.

I'm putting 1 on disk now and have done as you says. . the 2 boxs on right both went up to nearly the top and the box top left bounces between about 80% and 95/96 odd

that sh!t looks technical, all movin graphs n sh!t lol.gif

Then it appears to be using both cores - ¿what program are you actually using to do the transcoding? unsure.gif

Never used them sorry mate. Looks like the cc-hde outputs H.264 though biggrin.gif

Have encoded loads of AVI's with CCE 2.7, I've never used the SP2 but from the screenshots its exactly the same... perhaps a few extra (prob pointless) settings.
