Hello there earlier top day I did some shopping and came across some sphagnum peat moss, it was pretty pricey too, around a 5er for a bag. There wasn't much there not like you get a bag of compost, I was just wondering peep's I'm looking to make up a real nice organic mix,I no moss is probably used without soil if its used by itself therefore a non soilless mix but was wondering if i mixed the 2 together???.I have been advised not to bother mixing coco so was wondering if this moss would add extra air to the soil.So far I have sole Bone meal, and some fish, blood and bone, some pear lite yet to buy another expensive product, 14quid a bag I have some lime thinking of some guano, oh and doing the Funki Fungi thing too, I have seen tremendous results with the right combination good veggie time I have seen yields with this method to be as good as hydro so I must give it a try need all the help I can get ph34r.gif

It's mostly for decorative or floristry use - lining hanging baskets and such. It does hold a lot of water, but I don't think it's suitable for inclusion in a potting mix.. smile.gif

Sphagnum peat moss improves aeration and moisture retention in clay type soils. 20% of Biobizz all mix is sphagnum peat moss.

I had a lovely bag of Irish Peat Moss recently 80ltr for £5.99 because they were waiting for a delivery of westlands m/p and I needed to pot up and I must say it smelt sweet and moist and was really black, it was well composted and my plants loved it because it really was soft after sieving it all.

I use sphagnum moss as a medium for my orchids and bonsai trees which love it as a medium, but pure sphagnum moss is to expensive for growing canna in it, 10 litres of (A) grade moss is £10.99.

Peace,
GG

Sphagnum Moss is a very good medium for plants that will be in the same small pot for long periods, like bonsai trees and orchids. When my canna bonsai mums need there next root prune And re pot I'm going to re pot them into sphagnum moss and see how it goes because my bonsai trees love it.
Peace,
GG
