My garden, which I love so much, is finally starting into spring growth in earnest. My three elderly apricot trees (Prunus armeniaca) are covered in white blossom as is my little pink-flowered peach tree (Prunus persica). Both my loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) and guava (Psidium guajava) trees' branches are laden with a good crop of big, green, although still very hard fruits which are maturing slowly. The pecan nut (Carya illinoinensis) and fig tree (Ficus carica) have yet to break their buds. My mulberry tree (Morus spp.) is also fresh with new foliage and I can see small fruit developing here and there. Will take some photo's tomorrow morning to show you guys. Hopefully my family and I will have a summer full of fresh home grown fruits and nuts!

My loquat tree, a friend gave it to me after growing it from seed. Mmm the ripe golden yellow fruits taste delicious! Originating from China the tree is actually surprisingly cold hardy, I remember seeing a decent sized tree in a garden in central London once. I think they would definitely need a protected spot in most parts of England except maybe Cornwall.

Oh no I think I've finally solved the mystery surrounding my two 'Mission' olive trees... it seems they have Verticillium Wilt, which is a real bugger as its practically impossible to get rid of, because it persists as hyphae in the soil in a somewhat similar fashion to Honey fungus I'm guessing. Dash it all! The only thing that can be done is to encourage vigour in the plants by adopting suitable cultivation techniques i.e. regular fertilising and continually cutting out infected shoots and branches.

Haha if you loved the view from the back garden, check out this one from the front. Very lucky to have mountains and hills bordering the whole village, which should hopefully keep urban sprawl to a minimum!

Ah no worries mate. I'm almost totally bilingual in English and Afrikaans, not Afrikaans by the way just went to an Afrikaans school for a few years and didn't have much choice other than to learn it as quick as possible. Best way to learn a language in my opinion, throw yourself in the deep end, works like a charm! I don't get many opportunities to converse in Afrikaans on the Net. Should have known better!

Thank you for that mate, thats just about as south as you can go.
How do you find living in S.A, I've heard stories of violence but I dn't trust a word the media saids and never really had a chance to talk to a S.A, is there still quite a big race issue? Or has that given way to class issues like most of the rest of the world?
