joby,
Is this the total area that you have got to grow in ? no other space or pots ? windows. Is it in soil or a roof garden?
You can grow loads in small spaces, tell us more.

Hi Joby.
My Bible recomends that in a 70cm by 50cm pot,(ie 2 square foot), you can put;
Basil 12 plants
Aubergine 2
brocoli 2
pumpkin 2
onion 12-18
brussel sprouts 2
coliflour 2
runner beans 18
lettuce 12
pepper 2
beetroot 8
tomato 1-2
carrots plant loads then cut them off at ground level so they are 5cm apart.
I am new to this myself but the above seems about right, maybe someone who actually knows will come and correct/add to it.
Cheers

Joby,
Your man knows nowt, the taste of home grown fruit and veg can't be beat.
OK, it's a bit late in the year now but you can plant the Chinese quick growing stuff, Pak choi and lettuce type of leaf salads, better if you can get a cover over your area. I think you can buy packets of mixed seed for sowing now.
Loads of other things to be doing before next years growing season, to get better results , a cold frame is a good move and improve your soil over the winter. Pots are perfect for growing many herbs, the sort you cook with BTW.
A few veg growers on here, just ask the questions if you need help, and good luck.

Hi Joby, once you get it going you`ll NEVER look at supermarket veg the same, and it`s just as addictive as growing anything you enjoy growing with the bonus of a tasty meal. Like JOM says just ask

Check out my diary to see what JOM myself and others have grown this year

thanks people.
i am now more determined to have a great productive veg plot on the go, had to take brocalli out yeaterday. me like a idiot thought all the butterflys that were flying around the plot looked lovely thought one or 2 eggs wouldnt matter cause they were only on the leafs. mmm big mistake had a army of caterpillas on there had to cut broccali down before they ate it all... oh well live by my mistakes. got some carrots in there that seem to be growing well. leafs are getting big on them. keep wanting to pull them up to see whats going on under ground... i want to plant some potatos for christmas dinner, is it to late in theyear for them now?
what about sprouts. can i put them in now? sorry people totally new to veg growing. but if anyone needs help with flowers i could help with that...

Your a bit nackered for spuds for christmas as you won't be able to buy any seed potatoes.
The one thing that springs to mind is, try and find some manky looking spuds that are starting to "shoot" slice them so you have a couple of eyes on each bit/slice and put them in a bowl/dish of water if they start putting out roots stick them on the top of some half decent compost and sheild them from the worst of the weather and keep your fingers crossed.
Good luck
