I've made this out of some old aluminum. However, the other side of it that you cannot see is painted.
It will be holding a 400W HPS/MH.

Do you think the lamp will generate enough heat to cause the paint to start melting?

I do not know what paint it is. If it does melt I'll update this with a warning.

depending on the type of paint it is, it could release harmfull toxic fumes when warm mate, just to forewarn you.

id get the paint off

bloody cracking job though, wish i could make stuff as professional looking as that
