The VMWare trade show is happening now in San Fran. As I understand it, this is a show to promote VMWares version of cloud computing? unsure.gif

Anyway, instead of having the email stations tied to the internet through the facility backbone (T5?), the installed data center is connected to thin clients? (HP) at each terminal. It's slower than when other trade shows are there without this sort of set up and it doesn't like it when I play Evony. whistling.gif We'll see if they get the bugs worked out this week while I'm there. In any case I think cloud computing won't hit the internets due to bandwidth issues.

anyway, here are some pictures of the data center. geek.gif

Note how the power lines for the racks go up and over a frame, then drop and tie in at a distro box on the floor (small boxes on right, last picture). In the last picture you can see the 400A, 3 phase transformer for the center, large box on the right.

Coming on tuesday evening (my time) so wed morning your time. Not sure whose racks they are, but I'll get the info on that. I only have a cell phone camera so the quality won't be great.

HP is providing the thin clients as a sponsor/promotion.

Sorry guys. I've got some more pics but can't upload for another day or so. Most of the racks are Cisco with a few odd racks in there including HP. Pictures will show all the rack flavors as well as a sign that mentions the hardware and software used.

And here you folks go. Enjoy.

Sorry these are in poor order. The first rack is a top of a cisco, the bottom half the cisco rack is below.

Apparently the data center went down the first day or so. I hope it wasn't because I was playing evony! naughty.gif

It was mentioned in a session that it had been a memory storage, but not a disc space issue. Probably a bullshit story as security there was tight lipped. Most of the sessions where sales pitch events with loads of general outlines and not much hard data. IBM was funny. And scary. They're so big, it seems like they can afford to be stupid.
