my mother is lookin worse for wear after her 6 week shave,i had to go to town as she was getting to dense,i thinned out...mebe to mutch and now she is srugling ,i'm using same soil and she is 1 and bit years old,her new shoots look very pale lime green, gets fed with fish/blood and bone once every six months or so,scared to repot, plus she gets a nitrogen fix from chempack every two months.i really need this plant as its my mainstay,(never let me down)before, and never looked like this before, just hope i have not gone to far on the trimming,it needed it,under 18/6 it was filling out nicely till i noticed small popcorn buds growing in the undergrowth,i hope it will turn back

She sounds hungry. Lots of people swear by fishmix for mums. Also after a year a root trim and repot with some fresh compo is probably needed...all in buddage's link....I think flowering can be a stress response?

The last time i did a root trim nearly killed her off,i will read them articles very carefully, thanks, and she needs feeding... but before or after a refresh/soil/pot,like i say i will have a good read.

Give her a good feed, take a few cuts the next day as insurance (to make a new mum should she kark it) and then go ahead with the root prune.... spliff.gif . Shouldn't need feeding for a good couple of weeks after being put into new compost.

BB fish mix is far superior to other nutes for mums and scared or not mate she has to be root pruned or potted up, but re potting into bigger and bigger pots is not suitable for mums unless you have the room because the roots become lignified and cannot take up nutrients. Nice healthy white roots are the ones your mums need, always do a root prune immediately after pruning the cuttings from her and then she will cope easily with the loss of roots, then a week or so later you wont recognise her, she will look beautiful. Do it and she will love you for it.

Peace,
GG
