hey 420ers wink.gif

thought it was about time i done a little diy thread on how to make an 8 site aero cloner like this one........

Click to view attachment Click to view attachment

hopefully it will help someone out just like this great site has helped me out
its also pretty cheap and real easy to make and i have had 100% success rate with this to date
all parts are easily available from grow shops

so here goes....

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

1 x 12.5 Litre, black food grade bucket with lid £4.00
1 x X-Stream Aero Cloche £7.00
1 x 5mm rubber grommet £0.30
1 x 12mm T-piece £1.00
4 x Micro Sprinklers (360 Degree ) £3.00
8 x 50mm X-Stream Net Pots £6.00
8 x Neoprene Clone Collar £4.00
1 x Maxijet 1000 ( or equivalent ) the pump is the most important part so get a good pump

also a bit of flexible garden hose about 12 inches long
and a bit of about roughly 4 inches

Click to view attachment Click to view attachment

TOOLS YOU WILL NEED

drill
stanley knife
hand file
5mm drill bit
3mm drill bit
tape measure
pencil

right lets start..

STEP 1

take the tape measure and measure across the lid to find the centre and mark with the pencil.
then from the centre, mark 7 lines equally apart just like this ( i done this on a white lid just so its easier to see in the pics )

now take one of the net pots and draw round the top of it on the lines you have just done
then do one right in the centre of the lid

now take the stanley knife and carefully cut about 5mm inside the pencil lines of the net pots,
now try and see if the net pots fit in the holes, if not take the hand file and file the hole till you have a nice snug neat finish, you should now have a lid that resembles something like this

part 2 to come in 10 mins once i have a spliff and a cuppa wink.gif
Bad Penny.
Excellent thread mate, thanks for taking the time with the pics etc,I remember buying Rainforests when they first came out,I didnt realise back then that a home-made model like yours was equally as effective and probably an eigth of the price, thanks once again wink.gif
GarageFlower
STEP 2

now take the black bucket and drill a 5mm hole about 1 inch under where the handle is fixed to the bucket
and pop the 5mm grommet in like so

now take the plug off the pump and place it in the bucket and thread the cable through the grommet
and re-attach the plug , you should now have something like so cool.gif

STEP 3

now take the biggest bit of garden hose and the T-piece and connect them like this

now mark and drill 4 , 3mm holes equally spaced in the top of the hose then push in the mini sprinklers like so

Click to view attachment Click to view attachment

now stick the pump to the bottom of the bucket and attach the small bit of hose to the pump and to the free end of the T-piece

Click to view attachment Click to view attachment

ideally you want the sprinklers roughly a few inches below the net pots once the lid is on
so you may have to adjust the size of the small piece of hose to suit

thats all the hard work done cool.gif , now take a seat and have that well deserved joint wink.gif

in true blue peter style this is one i made earlier rofl.gif

i may also have to pop a heater in there soon , by drilling another hole just next to the one at the handle and popping another grommet in there
but for now its been working great just sitting at the back of my boiler cupboard

hey eazy mate i use a 250 cfl 3-4 inches above the cloche, works a treat,
im sure you could use a few energysavers around it though instead if you wanted

as for water temps, try keep it between 75f and 80f

what i do mate is take a cut from the mom, dip it in clonex, then into 1 inch rockwool cubes
then just pop the cube into a netpot

no nothing added to the water

one other thing , when ya taking cuts try and use the fresh shoots as these root much faster

Cheers mate, going to make one. So you saying i do not need the neoprene rings ?

Do you have a heater for the water temps ? I have an old aquatic one which would sit in the bucket and do the job i think.

How many inches should the ring be exactly from the pots ?

Cheers

the neoprene rings are up to you mate, i stil put mines on top of the rockwool cubes just to be sure that no light is getting to the roots, also useful for keeping the light out if your only doing a few cuts instead of 8

no ive not got a heater in mines just now but i might need to add one as the year goes on, the one you have sounds like it would be fine mate

my sprayer heads are about 1.5 - 2 inches under the bottom of the net pots, so they are about 4 inches from the top of the bucket, just experiment and adjust the size of the little piece of pipe thats connected to the pump

Awesome thread.

Got one more question though, what times do you run the pump for ? Is it constant or on a timer ?

Awesome mate, just had the gear delivered. Think i may add another 2/3 pots though as i need 10 cuttings, no doubt the jets will still reach them.

Thanks for the help and replys.

Well nearly finished it, just not sure on the lighting now. Got a 250w CFL but thinking is it just a waste of electric ?

Should i step down to a 125w cfl ?

Or should i use x4 20w energy savers to get them rooted in the prop and once rooted out of 1" cubes and transferred to 4" cubes switch the 250w on to get them ready for main tent ?

Decisions, decisions .....

Well decided on making my own 2x55w fluro tubes, got ballasts etc coming. These will be used for mother/clones.

Then once transferred to 4" cubes will be under the 250w cfl, then main tent....600w hps.

My bucket if up and running and has a thermostatic heater in it keeping temps at 24-26c.

Just need some cuttings now...lol.gif

That's a really neat piece of DIY kit. thumbsup.gif

I've got a couple of pre-made ones that are used with air pumps and stones.

You know the sad thing, I think that works better than my 36 site xstream.

Incredibly nice build looks better built than the xstream as well.

Awesome garageflower mate, been a great help. Mine is now made and running with bleach/water to clean everything.

I made mine 12 site and added a 100w thermostatic heater.

I am still unsure whether to use cubes or just the collars. Been reading that they root much quicker without a cube and that 15 on/off with a cube would leave it saturated at all times ?

I was thinking just using collars, then split a 1" cubes and put back in system, once roots come out of the cube transplant to a 3" cube.

I have read of people who do use cubes in them that they only need 10secs spray every hour.

Will get a pic of mine up tomorrow peeps.

Cheers

Checkout gs pot systems on the web, most sellers who sell this system offer these lids for direct rooting in gs pot aeroponic systems, in effect you use the main system to clone as well as produce a large plant without trasfer from propagator, if short of space perfect for cloning, use 6 myself and they are excellent.

Did you put the seeds directly in this or was it a clone, if a clone should root anytime soon, if a seed i would imagine you downed it. 34.gif

Whats the ph at?

Happy Days !!!

My roots are about the same size as yours now if not bigger, i have added some grow at ec 0.4. I did not use any cubes at all.

What do you do with yours next mate ? The roots are too long for 1" or 3" blocks or can i just hang them out the bottom ??

Could they just go in main tent under 600w hps in a bubbler or can i grown them on in the cloner ?

Help !!!
