I bought some from my Oxfam and it was half price & a bog off - it's the high notrogen stuff though. Put some on the lawn and it's looking like Wembley now.

Was certainly a heated debate at times rolleyes.gif

It says something like 25% organic matter, what does that mean? Is it an organic product?
It also says it's composed of some other stuff, including insect remains. Is this the composition for all Bat Guano products?

Its probably carapace, chitin, undigestable insect remains that pass through the bats system, just hazzarding a guess, probably wrong though, isnt this stuff sourced from indonesia? The organic matter could be anything as most bats apart from fish eating(which also take small amphibians) and fruit bats are insectivors unsure.gif
papaduc
I know. I imagine insect remains would be in bat Guano, but it's the 25% thing I don't get. Is the rest organic matter? Just curious. Seems the farming methods these people use, respects the bat's way of life, therefore shouldn't be detrimental to their habitat. If not, I wouldn't buy it.

Purely in terms of growing, its a usefull and effective product; of that there is no doubt.
But I'm intrigued by the "25% organic" thing. What does that mean, indeed?
Mind you, I'd question its claim to be organic, given its been transported half way round the world. Footprint - Large! Which is why some of us prefer to source our products nearer to home, and wouldn't buy the guano at all. But that's just my personal view, and as I said, purely in terms of growing, yes, its good and you can use it as per the instructions.
papaduc

Hmm, the footprint thing is always a debate in the organics issue. It's also quite difficult to gauge how much worse, if at all, it is to have a huge container filled with the stuff and shipped, with some of the proceeds going to what seems a good cause, than it is to have many smaller nationwide deliveries of a product which lines the pockets of the people who make many commercially available composts, and who may also invest in projects which do further damage to the environment, for example.

If you debate the ethics of the thing, it becomes a long chain which you can follow right to the end, and often find some unpleasant things you didn't know where connected to stuff you initially thought had a smaller footprint.

I should imagine that refers to the chemical analysis of the product unsure.gif , 25% being organic matter the rest being made up of inorganic elements like calcium, manganese, etc, etc.

Papaduc, I was not intending to open up a debate, far from.
