Hi

While my current plant is nearly ready i am already thinking about my next one smile.gif

I am thinking of giving the AutoPot System a go , Anyone used these before ? are they worth trying ?

I assume that this can be used with the Biobizz range ? (Can this be used with the Autopot System ?

Would it be a good idea to use the TopMax ?or is there any thing similar that could be used ?

I think i remember reading somewhere that it may be best to mix some perlite with the Allmix ? Is this recomended ? If so what ratio ?

Is there anything else i should be using along with this set up ?

Like i said in my introduction thread i am very new to the growing, so please go easy if i am getting the wrong end of the stick ! 13.gif

Your thoughts are welcome !

Thanks

I'd remove the links mate, not meant to be advertising retailers on here. Just use the search function on the top right of your screen and find a million answers to your questions.

Happy reading rofl.gif

Ey up mate,

Autopots are very good and generally problem free. Stick an airstone in the reservoir and you're good to go.

You can use Biobizz.

I would avoid Top Max, if you want to use another of the Biobizz range I would recommend Biobizz heaven, although with this being your first grow I'd probably stick to just grow and bloom so you've got a yardstick to gauge what works and what doesn't.

Use perlite on your first pot for your plants if you like, it's not essential though. I'd probably just get yourself some John Arthur Bowers with John Innis (cheaper and a tried and trusted brand).

Just stick to the basics on this first grow...

Lighting
Ventilation (oscillating fan and adequate extraction)
Decent compost
Grow
bloom

Forget everything else.

Right, after a little more reading, it looks like the Autopot system is unsuitable for use with the Biobizz range !

Looks like my best bet it just to keep on watering by hand

My apologies, you're right it would clog the drippers and not last long when in water, sorry mate!

No need for perlite in a decent compost. It just robs the plant of good food. I know some folks say it is great for airating the compost, and they are right - it is. But, and its a huge but, any half decent compost is airy enough already - British composts are "good to go" from the bag, that is their whole point. Open the bag and plant your treasures. All you need is water, and after about five weeks, some liquid nutes to be used very sparingly.

Speaking just for myself, I found it hard to see Allmix as being in any meaningful way "organic", so discontinued using it a while back. Full of peat, a huge carbon footprint from transportation across many countries and even overseas. Organic? Hmmmmm ..... Not. Not in my head anyways. Just a personal PoV.

If you really want a decent organic multi purpose compost, try googling "Moorland Gold", or "Natures Own Potting Compost", or "Fertile Fibres". wink1.gif

If you aren't all that fussed about the "organic" tag, then I would recommend "J Arthur Bowyers Multi Purpose Compost with added John Innes" - bit of a mouthful if you're totally wankered in the old garden centre, but there you go. Actually, they're getting used to me now, and have placed a nice collection of sweets and small bags of Maltesers just by the till, bless 'em biggrin.gif
Oh yeah, and Westlands also do a "Multi Purpose with added John Innes"

The really basic route is to get yourself the B&Q seed and cutting compost to start off. I don't think you can go wrong with that stuff.

Arnold layne, Have you ever used the New Horizon organic grow bag/compost? If so, how does it compare with those you mention?

I am running with a mix of about 20% Loam 30% New Horizon 10% worm castings and 40% coco, along with rockdust, rootgrow, seaweed and rootfood.

The New Horizon is very dry and a bit woody, if you know what I mean, although I'm not complaining at the results so far. Are all the organic, peat-free composts like this?

hello 420ers hope everyones well

I've read that the Hesi nutrient range is really good with the autopots, it dosn't block the drippers because its not organic.
hope my input was useful. wink1.gif
