Hi guys,

just wondered if anyone here who is familiar with MS knows about it's relationship with IBS ... I've read that in patients with MS, IBS can be caused by a spastic bowel.

If this is the case, would there be any point in trying cannabis. The patient currently uses it one joint at night, which helps with pain and general spascitity ... smoking more during the day is impractical ... would a careful preparation in butter/chocolate form possibly have an effect without leading to getting stoned ?

I have MS I used to smoke it but now I have it in chocolate. I must admit I have problems with going to the loo due to problems with spacticity so I make the chocolate with it I have not had any this week and going to the loo is a problem so it just showes that having the chocolate with it in helps I can not wait till I get some next week but you can get stoned if you eat to much as eating it can be a bit diseptive it takes a bit to get into your system where as smoking it is an instant thing.

I can not wait till next week.

greetings jimmy page.

i have both....... and can say that weed really helps me with the spasticity of both diseases. i usually smoke but am just starting with cannabutter.... all i know so far is less butter is better as i got way too stoned at first from ingesting and i didn't find that very pleasant. i know how much is enough when i smoke, i don't want to be totally stoned, just want the spastic muscles to relax along with the weed easing my mis-firing brain.

Just wanted to add that my partner has IBS bad, and weed is good to stop the intestine spasming... the only thing i would watch out for is what triggers the spasming... like in her case it is any dairy products atall.. so that rules out the butter, chocolate or most yogurts.. so make sure your not mixing the weed with exactly what causes the spasms like...

She was thinking maybe something peppermint and weed but cant think of anything ,as peppermint is amazing for the spasms too... IBS is a nightmare for her anyway, can ruin her life sometimes, must get her to smoke a bit more lol.gif

Well the first step is to contact GP (done) get referral (done) and see what the experts say ... I am aware there are many possible factors involved in IBS, and am (hopefully) not so stupid as to rush for the herb without making sure there's nothing lurking that shouldn't be.

If there isn't, and it's likely it's the MS causing spasms in the bowel, then I may try something which can deliver a continual dose through the day, without the high. It's suggestive that the IBS never strikes at night, after the 1-a-day joint we share (her for MS, me for glaucoma). However she wouldn't want to get stoned during the day.

Personally, I have always been interested in the fact that the medicinal qualities of cannabis, cetainly as far as pain relief go, appear to be distinct from the psychoactive effects. If modern medicine were not the crock of shit it is, then this would be a ripe area for research, as it could lead to painkillers which do not knock you out (hello morphine)

e2a Thanks for the replies guys, means a lot
sir smoke allot

hi jimmy. i dont think incorparaiting chocolate and butter will stop the effect of stonedness because as u prob know u can make cakes and brownies with cannabis and still get a real heavy high. but if ur looking for realife without the stonedness try making weed tea i heard this can relive mild pain but not get u stoned...... how to make this is in soft secrets issue 3 of 2009 look it up hope it helps... bless
