just been perusing focus do it all and came across some peat free growbags from shamrock ..well one bag was split open and it looked pretty decent ,black crumbly and well rotted ..only £1.59 for 27 litres so ive grabbed a bag to try out ..if anyone has tried them did they have any probs with fungus gnats as so many of the bags of compost around this area seem to be full of them ,especially from the local wyevale garden centre ,whether this is because they store them all outside on a pallet i dont know ..but ive always had problems with soils and composts from garden centres

ps ive just discovered they are coir based composts

Wyevale are a pain in the arse for storing compost outside. Once it has got wet, it is usually useless. sad.gif

I only ever buy compost that's been indoors, and is relatively new. I think it helps a lot.

aye ..totally agree ..this years best compost ive found was focus home brand or wickes homebrand ..levingtons has been as good as always ..but i just cant get stuff to grow in westlands advanced ..ended up throwing nearly 300 litres of it in my compost pile instead of using it for the veg

I just go in and rip apart the pallet to get a nice dry bag from the middle - the staff have moaned at me, I explained why I was doing it and even got one of them to help me. They are going to look into getting little shelters built to store the compo under...... smoke.gif
