hello people, this is my first post, would like to say hi first!!!!!,now lets get down to buisness,i have a ten inch german ruck fan, good high quality, only thing is when it starts up it sounds like a boeing 747 taking off???,i have had a box made, 2 foot by 2ft cubed.i have started filling in around the box with expanding foam, thing is it is going to take a lot of foam, would it be viable to make some of the void space up in rock wool????,if not what else is good with acoustics ande heat to make up some of the space???? wink.gif

Mystical-haze
I am by no means an expert m8,
but i would use bubble wrap and polystyrine myself personally,
or what about sumit like newspaper, old carpet? maybe an old continental quilt??
cheap and very cost effective

ive got a 6" and ive made a box out of kingspan and filled it with loft insullation , its not silent but its a lot quieter.

i just used duck tape to make the box but loft insullation might be worth thinking about . g.gif

thanks for the reply lads,i have the boxes made out of ply????bloody heavy, but a huge void to fill,i used three cans of expanding foam, did not even touch the sides!!!!!,i was thinking of loft insulation, but was wondering if it would affect the electrics as on the outside, and is it flammable,if there was to be serious problems????i went to a site with acoustic solutions, like the foam found in recording studios,if i make it with this one,i might take up making them,as was quite fun and selling them cheap, box of a good standard as made by a chippy of mine,i will keep you informed!!! wink.gif

well, the fan was a success.ultra quiet construction, neat and tidy finish, had some teething problems, but added a few bit to the internal construction.now i have been looking on the net and they start from £250 upwards.i can sell these babies at a fraction of the price, will be making three next week and posting on ebay, the fans are made with the grower in mind, lightweight construction, acoustics in mind, high quality acoustic lined design.i have not re-invented the wheel, but i know for a fact mine run a lot quiter than previous fans i have had,and in any terms that is a bonus.if anyone is interested drop me a line, they will be no where near £250.00 up.regards.

one love
