Hi ppl
one proper broken volcanologist here, my 360 Elite is ***ked there is no video output, ive ruled out fault with the cables or TV so its definately the xbox.
Anyone had to send one back for repair out of warranty? ive had a look online and to get it fixed they want your credit card details however offer no idea of the costing involved.
gutted!

This very same thing has happened to my mate yesterday. He's got sound but no video or when he has video everything is pixelated and saturated with a green hue.
It's something to do with overheating and the graphics card becoming detatched from whereever it should be. I think that with an out of warranty repair request, they'll let you know how much it'll be to fix and get your agreement before charging you anything . Check out xbox.com for the procedure...

This happened to me with my second xbox. For a temporary fix, the towel trick will get you a couple of hours worth of gaming out of it. Unfortunately, I have a feeling you will soon be presented with the dreaded 'E74' error message which is a GPU error. I think it's about £50 or so to have it fixed. I just bought one of the newer 60gb xboxes instead in the hope that all of those types of faults had been solved and rectified prior to it's manufacture. So far so good.
Hope ya get it sorted out dude.

I think the issue with 360s is cooling. I'm waiting till i can get one cheap enough that i can play with it and it is cheap enough that if i kill it, it don't matter..
are you any good with computer hardware/electronics? it's an elite so what i'd do is take the parts off it that make it elite (hard drive?) and fit them to a second hand but working standard 360. Then upgrade the cooling.. arctic silver 5 thermal paste on all the heatsinks, extra fans, and get it out of that poor for cooling case and into something better. I've seen people put 360s in pc cases (sometimes with a pc also in the case). I'm a big fan of the Xbox classic - you can pick them up for pounds now - i got one on thursday with an xecuter in it for £4.. and it works.. so i'm using it as a parts bin for my main classic which is 4 yrs newer), and i'm considering using its case to hold a 360, 2 8cm pc fans on the right side blowing air in, 2 8cm pc fans on the left, pulling air out.. big project admittedly but buying a 2nd hand xbox is probably cheaper than sending yours to microshaft to have it fixed.
