The title says it all really,
Is there a specific season for sea fishing.
Thanks Station
Edit, When buying sea fishing kit is there anything in particular to look out for?

You can rod-and-line fish all year round in the sea,no specific set season, though certain fish are seasonal like mackerel, bass, and cod.

There's no closed season for sea angling, seasons are really dictated by fish availability due to migration patterns. No rod license required either. But the minimum sizes permitted for sea fish apply to sea angling as well as commercial fishing boats, undersized fish have to be thrown back.

Stay away from multipliers unless you are match fishing.

Dunno if you looked at that site, but there's a section in the FAQ on sea angling tackle that goes into what tackle is best for shore fishing, beach casting, boat fishing etc.

At moment it's still 36cm...there are various groups lobbying for this to be raised to 40-42cm, this will ensure that the bass have had a chance to spawn, as 36cm not all bass will have done so.....
Get out there, thwere's plenty of bass about this year

When I started sea fishing, I made a point of tasting every kind of fish, and I'm happy to say I would put most of them back - especially bass - which I reckon's highly over-rated.

I wonder if I'm the only sea angler who always carries a drop / landing net and an unhooking mat ? (The latter, of course being mostly used to sit on no matter wherever I'm fishing.

I reckon our best fish is freshly caught mackerel... though I'd have a job putting a black bream back .. and I'm quite partial to the odd pollack.
I like to fish light myself, and one really neat thing I discovered recently is the 2 ounce breakaway lead.

That's the problem for most of us - and unless you keep going back to the same holiday place and hence get to know it, it's difficult to actually catch fish.... that and being at the mercy of the tides - it's difficult to chuck spinners and flies about when surrounded by bathers !

cheers for the replies on the legal bass size 14 inch it is then!!
that pic of them 2 bass is beautifull would of been more beautifull if they had been returned but hey ho i also keep the odd one for my nan to eat, my dad and grandad were fishermen so she loves a nice bit of fresh fish.
i go for the light line spinning plugging approach, i would like to do commercial rod and line bass fishing but looking into it even a cheapo set up is around 10k and im sure it would take me a couple years min to suss it out but some peeps round my way are regularly earning a good whack
leepy man your posts are soooo funny its quality u r like the pepsi max style hero of 420. from growing to fishing to fighting you like to do everything BIG glad to hear the seal got away though!
