Could run a 150 watt HPS from a 12 boat volt battery using a 300 watt inverter. I would be great for night fishing

if the inverter is rated to at least the input power of the hps, it should work fine. i'd try it out before the fishing trip tho cool.gif

depending on the Amphour rating of the battery you could get anywhere from a couple of minutes to a few minutes whistling.gif

wouldnt a 12v flourescent be the most efficient way?

or for distance a halogen or xenon spotlight?

I was thinking a fully charged 60 amp hour battery would last for at least 10 hours. I would think that 150 watt HPS would draw about 3 amps max. I intend to submerge it don't worry it will be absolutely watertight.

Having not fished for a few years , i'm a bit rusty on the techniques, but wouldn't sinking a 150w lamp scare the fish away fish.gif

Or is that your idea, put it the other side of the lake and fish the dark bit ?
genius !

All I can say is that years ago when I was in the navy I had the job of rigging up diving lights so the hull could be inspected by divers. I saw swarms of fish that seemed to be attracted to the lights, that was in Portsmouth harbour.

Been out on squid boats in Thailand and the Philippines, they all had lights to attract the cephalopods closer ph34r.gif

Thanks for the replies. I got another question. Would there be any problems with the lead from ballast to lamp 20-30 feet long? I read somewhere that it can cause problems but cant remember.
