About 4/5 years mate, depending on the position and I would think variety.

I have had mine for about 8 years, it's half grown for it's structure and a compromise when it comes to fruit. The last couple of years have been a washout fruit wise but has looked nice climbing over the wire frame it's trained on.

It's quite an art but a great plant to grow, even managed a few bottles of chateu JOM a few years back, find a local Vinyard and pick their brains a bit you will probably be able to buy your plants as well.

Looking forward to the pics Cantharis, any chance of one now ?

Just for you, justonemore - here is one I took today.

I bought my vine in 2002, got my first crop, a couple of pounds, in 2003. But in my climate these things grow better than back in the UK.

People (British, that is) keep asking me if I am going to make wine - at 40 cents a litre for wine they are having a laugh. Eating grapes are relatively expensive, compared to wine, and I eat mine. Give a few bunches away to neighbours, though.

Thanks Cantharis,

Beautiful looking fruit mate, do you prune it back after the fruit has set ?

I'll stick a picture of mine up if you want.

Cheers

ive got a 10 year old black dessert grape vine ..this is the first year its not fruited in abundance though due to me pruning the roots and cutting back hard to repot it in a 55 gallon drum ..but its looking healthy and the leaves are delicious with a little hemp oil and rice wrapped up

Has it always lived in a pot Vince ?
