hi guys just set up my nft system to night
i've got the ec at 1.0/1.2
but the ph is right down at 3.o2

i've only got ph down & no ph up
is there any house hold stuff i can use to knock it up or should i wait till tomorrow & to buy some ph up.

Helloooo. smoke.gif

PH down=More acidic - I would go for Citric Acid - from chemists, really cheap

Spose in an absolute emergency you could use lemons.

PH up=more alkali - I think it's somthing like bicarbonate of soda - supermarket - dead cheap.

Good luck and I'm sure there are other ingredience you could use.

The lemons are a guess but I make wine and thats a basic way of increasing acidity.

liquid silicon is a benefical plant nutrient that also raises the ph of a nutrient solution i use it at full strenth and find it also helps keep the ph more stabel
anther thing i hope you dont have plants in a sytem with a ph of 3.2 as this will imeadatly star to kill your roots so if you cant raise the ph then remove the nutrient solution and just let the plant have plain water at a ph of between 5.5 and 6.0 lain water wont kill your plants like a ph of 3.2 will do this untill you can get yourself some liquid silicon and then and only then start to feed your plants again
liquid silicone is a much better product than ph up

I have to agree with green here. It well raise the ph for you and not burn your roots. I've found with my nutes, if i ph up, a day later my ph well spike quite a bit. Ph up also in my opinion causes problems for the root mass when i would watch mine in a bubbler, but could have been the nutes reaction to ph up. I did change brands of ph up and finally went to new nutes until i found silicon, and using it now, i'm very impressed. my leafs look very healthy.

If you have low ec when you have just mixed, then the nutrient isnt suiting the water, maybe you need to get soft water nutes

If not then empty your res and do a new mix

would it matter how much of this stuff u put in to get it up to 5.5/6.0

or can u only use so much per volume

could wall paper paste knock the ph down ?
cause i filled the resivour with a bucket i used for wall paper paste,& i'm pretty sure i gave it a good cleaning out.
i was quite surprised to see the ph down like that any way my hydro shop did'nt have any liquid silicon so i got some ph up.
Jackberry
in my opinion every hydro grower should be using liquid silicon. it keeps plants healthy and strong by aiding cell integrity and cell wall expansion(leading to an increase in nute uptake) plants are more resistant to damage or attack involving tissue penetration from pests and fungal diseases. it is highly alkaline and would cure your problem without adding ph up after all the less chems in the mix the better especially if there is no benefit to the plant. get some liquid silicon its not expensive @ £8 per litre so no excuse really as ph up aint much cheaper. but remember never add undiluted silicon direct to res cool.gif and its not unnattural as silica is present in soil its just missing in hydroponics 13.gif

dont know if they stock it i just asked if they had any & he just said no.
the shop (trading est unit) is crap & dear but its the nearest 1 to me.
i'll be ordering some of the net but sending some 1 els address wink.gif

well every thing seems to be going ok ATM ph 5.66,i want to get it to 5.8 but will wait a few days & see if it changes & which way it go's.
ec 1.2
arcane
Sometimes if I fuck up, I'll just drain some of the tank and refill with tap water which has a higher p.h.
green dreemer
yes adding plain tap water is my way of increasing the ph i just use my liquid silicone at full strength as a addative (nutrient) and it aslo works to stabilise the ph at full strength
rubixs
yes every thing ok ph & ec remaining stable. cool.gif
the plants look like they are loving it & i checked the roots they are spreading them selfs about in the spreader mat.
so looks like no damage was done green dreemer, thanks for the advise i've got my self some liquid silicon now & will be adding that when i do a res change as every thing is going fine now i dont wont to upset the balance.

spoke to soon did'nt i,should have known it were to good to be true.
anyway just notice my ph is dropping & ec rising, not by much but definetly.
i had the ph at 5.8 the other day its down to 5.6 now
ec was 1.2/1.4 but now flashing 1.4/1.6

any idea's any 1 whilst i go & look for an answer i know i have read about this problem b4.
Jackberry
the plants are taking more water than nutes from the feed reduce your EC re-adjust ph to 5.8-6.0 and then see how they go and adjust as necessary looking for levels she is happy with. has it got hotter in your room as this will increase the water uptake stoned.gif
The Sinner
Silicon rocks awesome stuff as said before every hydro user should have some. thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

for some reason the ph keeps dropping.
i done a fresh batched changed resivour cleaned it all out on saturday.
ph was 6.0/ec 1.0 each day the ph was gradualy dropping.
yesterday it was down to ph 5.3 & ec went up to 1.4
so i knocked the ph up to 6.3 & the ec was reading 1.0
just did a quick check of the ph & its back down to 5.7 in a matter of just 14/15 hours.

i've noticed the colouring of the leafs are looking abit paleish yellowie but the plants them selfs are growing(stretching).
i dont know if you'll be able to tell by the pics i'll post.

i'm thinking i might be needing some trace elements put in to the food/resivour,i have used super thrive with my past hydro grows & never had this problem.
all temps are ok averaging between 72 to 78 not to sure about feed temps as i aint got a water proof thermonitor but i think they should be ok.
the lights i'm using are just them energy saving bulbs which i've never had problems with in the past just for vegging.
the feed i'm using is canna.
and they are getting plenty of fresh ventilation with a little desk top fan blowing on them, moving the air about.
prawn
could be root trouble mate pinch.gif
if you've written out the overfeeding then root trouble's the usual next culprit ... solutions are- pythoff or h202 (liquid oxygen) ...
just to add I use cannazym which I credit with pretty much never having any root troubles (doesn't have to be canna though- any zym product will do)
