First grow, now pretty much established in the great outdoors. Started with 20 or so seeds germinated around the 25/5 but the bunnies raped one of my sites and reduced some rather nice plants to stumps with a few leaves. Hopefully they will recover in time to produce at least somthing worthwhile, these were Nirvana Papaya and the Mazar freebies from the Dutch boutique non fem I also have one Bberry clone that looks ok but just isnt growing. Pics of these plants will follow should they recover.

The AI, Taiga and Diesel (all fem) are doing ok though planted out late along with a few mistakes at the indoor stage these plants are relatively small. Though I lost two of eleven plants on this site, one to slugs and the other which is an AI just refuses to grow and is dying.

Hope you like em all and cheers to all who posted tips in various threads without which I would have grown nothin but rabbit food, more pics will follow later. None of the Taigas are showing any signs of flowering, would seem the longer flowering period of the Pure power plant stops the autoflowering, they seem ok outdoors though. Any thoughts constructive criticisms appreciated.

Can hope so, this bloody rain is really slowing things down despite a south facing plot that gets sun most of the day, lesson learned for next year: Start the bloody seeds in March!!

Thx for the good wishes.

Mr F

The ground was reasonably well prepped Mr F, the problem was having rootbound plants indoors for too long pinch.gif and I didnt even germinate until the end of May. Used plenty of coco pete along with compost, perlite/vermiculite and worm cast, they seem to be liking it too. The pickaxe was hard work. Have been very impressed with the growth rates outside, would have been nice to get some real good sun though, I missed out on most of the good sun in May and ealy June pinch.gif

Meanwhile my river grow site is looking nice again after the bunnies ate most of the plants down to barely leafed stumps which has really cheered me up no end. Recovering nicely in the pics, these plants went out in mid/late June and are mostly Papaya, 3 Mazar-I-sharif and a Blueberry clone which started late as it was showing preflowers when planted which seems to have delayed growth by about a month or more. Can only be certain which is which with a few of em. My grow buddy just got soaked as well on a feeding mission while I was sat here nice and dry, though it was my turn to get soaked last week.

Thanks for the good wishes Doyley, these plants seem to be doing nicely and have recovered in about 4 weeks from those bloody rabbits, the cages are 2 ft high just to give you an idea. Certainly arent gonna break any records for yield or size but am chuffed to bits that these plants may well yield something after the rabbits had their way. Some could also be males, no preflowers yet probably because of the rabbit attack.

This is my first outdoor grow after all and any kind of smokable result would be great, more of a learning curve this year methinks. Found another nice site for next year which has a canal drain nearby so my mind is whirring away already thinking how big plants could get with almost continous water and feed from a gravity fed auto watering system.....

Another from the river: (biggest on this site, mazar or papaya, note to self label better next year)

Indicaderek
Last but not least one of the Mazar-I-Sharif freebies, I have a couple more mazar on this site but am only certain that this one is a Mazar atm. Funny thing is this mazar has never had any kind of protection from the rabbits at all yet has been eaten less than any other plant, maybe rabbits dont like Asian food rofl.gif

Now I just gotta hope most of the nine plants are female on this site, though I would love a mazar male for seeds as they are supposed to be tough as old boots surviving snow and frost apparently!!

By the way does anyone know when NS Papaya usually finish outdoors in the UK? The rabbits eating mine seems to have slowed pre-flowers unsure.gif

gotta say derek looking rather nice dude. dont worry about size when they start flowering they will probably double in size! not sure about papaya isnt that mango by another name? nirvana? probly would as long as its not too long on a flower period. atb mate and watch out for them taiga's been reports of not auto flowering ones. so hope your's start soon.

Thx BP, I bet the bunnies wouldnt recover so quickly from my Airgun, Air Arms Tx200, may have to take steps in the future that bunny curry you like sounds nice and I'm just itchin to try out my new illuminated scope from ramsbottoms.

Thx for the compliment, I sure hope they do double in size, they certainly get enough worm tea, now where to find worm biscuits!!

The Papaya is the Nirvana seeds version of Mango I read somewhere, due to finish Oct (hopes). Just checked the breeders site, 9-11 wk flower, recommended for indoor, was that dutch boutique that claims outdoor flowering finishes in month 9-10 after only 8wks which I hope is true!! But I think the rabbit attack slowed maturity all round, hence no pre-flowers yet though neither has the Mazar or Blueberry clone which was showin pre-flowers when planted so that would account for that I think. This was the first site I planted out as well.

The Taiga's certainly arent autoflowering for me, not a problem outside really as they will just get bigger cool.gif most of the other plants on this second growsite are showin pistils as of 21/7 even the Alaskan Ice which is cool if the AI is anywhere near as good as some of the smoke reports. I just hope I get some of the better AI pheno's as this strain can still be hit and miss to say the least. lol.gif seems I got a bit of a bum deal allround on my seeds come to think of it, looks like I will be cloning the best of this lot for next year and have already bin scourin the forum here for the most tasty and reliable strains in the UK. Will certainly be taking more notice of practicing gardeners than seeds retailers or breeders in the future thats for sure spliff.gif Some of the guys on here really know their stuff!

I still have my venerable BSA Sportster - fitted with the ´wrong´gas ram. But I love the old Beezer, with Gamo pellets it puts them all through the same hole.

I love half a bunny roasted with a whole bulb (or two) of garlic. But Mrs c won´t come near for a day.

Thx for droppin by Che.

Bsa airguns absolute classics Cantharis, a friend used to have one and there built to last, cant beat the old British airguns. Will ave to try the rabbit roasted but cant stand garlic, no wonder your missus doesnt come near you, I'm surprised she even lets you in the house!!

Good luck derek.

Thanks for dropping by Cantharis, had a peek at your diary and your keeping things close to your chest until flowering it seems, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

However my garden is lookin somewhat unhealthy and decidedly wet to say the least. What were nice healthy green plants have yellow leaves, I'll leave the pics to explain, any tips on solving this particular problem much appreciated.

Seems all the rain has finally caught up with me planting in holes dug in clay soil. My soil mix is draining nicely, the problem is the surrounding clay gives it nowherre to drain to 34.gif The plot itself is quiet large and we have begun digging some drainage ditches as it is midway down a long shallow slope facing south. Seems a whole network of drains may be necessary as most of the area is getting squelchy underfoot. I am wondering if a local stream has been diverted as theres one that usually drains into the nearby canal which is now running at a small trickle when it was previously flowing nicely.

Time for a quick update on the riverbank grow, three of the nine plants are finally confirmed females and the rest have preflowers that may well be male so I will be keeping a close eye on these and pull any males as soon as I'm certain either way. Gave the confirmed females a good top dressing of vintage bat guano and a little potash, I watered this in with some regular 5-4-3 feed as well. Also taken a dozen or so cuttings after thinning out the lower growth on the confirmed females.

1st pic is the bberry clone, pics 2-3 are the papaya, all of which are female. I'm not too worried about the males as I wanted a male Mazar-I -Sharif for breeding as it is said to be very hardy, already flowered a male papaya indoors for some crosses with some of the other plants I have. One of the mazar I have planted in a nice fibre shopping bag so it will be relatively easy to transport after a nice trim. Pic 4 is of the whole plot.

Does anyone know if it would be worth trying the males in a bubblesack, would it yield any hash at all?
chewable_madness
There coming along mate, nice work.

I don't know about making hash with the males, it could be done if you let them go the whole way and they developed some crystals, but if your pulling them before that not sure. You could leave them a little untill the balls are at bursting point that would allow them to THC up a bit, but it's a risk play.

Either way may as well try your not going to loose anything
Magicgreengrower
i can see is your first mate it looks shit quite frankly i grow often and use good techniques for super dank harvests
Indicaderek
Thanks for stopping by CM will probably scrap the hash idea an just bring a choice male indoors to pollinate the odd bud later. And it has been nice work as theres plenty of sweat and blood in this outdoor grow.

My previous indoor grows have all been sucessfull but this year is a learning curve on the outdoor stuff which despite the setbacks has given some positive results which I am happy with all things considered.

spliff.gif

thumbsup.gif every years a learning curve mate. not a year of outdoor growing goes by without learning something else. its also about with being happy with what you get out of it, the more input as a rule the more output, be it planning or work done in preperation what ever you do will pay you back 10 fold even more so as it becomes second nature. The clay soil is a bitch isn't it. thats why the cheeky plot ended up in pots. i have another plot on a roundabout believe it or not which was very bad clay but we improved it with lots of compost and other matter and still the soil was seriously water logged and boggy. there is now only 3 plants there as 2 died. the 3 which are ther are my worst plants. so this plot allthough very secure will not be used again unless i feel very fit and fancy lugging pots and soil there also. which is unlikely considering its on a motor way slip road. all part of the learning curve ie.its not just about security and sunlight. i won't be growing in clay again, if i'd taken the time spent improving and prepping the site and used it scouting i could have found 2 more sites that needed less prep with better soil in the same timescale. concentrate on the productive plots and sack the un productive every year until yr happy with the amount of good ones you have and yr on a winner. if i was you i'd do exactly that, sack the clay and concentrate on the productive site. all is looking well at that plot yinyang.gif biggrin.gif
Indicaderek
Thanks for the tips Funki but I think the clay site is too large and secure for now to give up that easily in this case, I have over 100M square to play with here so a good bit of hard work will eventually be worth it as I have the time to spare atm. Should this site prove secure until after harvest I will be going full steam ahead digging a rather large drainage system and maybe even a small pond.

The ground is now much dryer on the clay site and the sturdier plants are showing some signs of recovery but have lost their large fan leaves and totally stalled flowering. Of the eleven planted six may yet yield something, the flowering type structure is growing but the flowers havent started to develop properly with just the odd pistil showing here and there. If dont think they will finish in time now so I may just have to do a seed run and bubble hash most of whats left. The AI and G13 diesel x haze cuts from here are now rooted after two weeks in the prop but not yet showing signs of vertical growth I will probably cross these out with a mazar male from the other site.

Anyways on with the somewhat sorry looking pics, close up is the taiga and its purple stems. Gave them all a good dose of vintage bat guano and potash.

Quick update, finally we have buds on at least some of the plants I have which is nice, though finishing properly is the issue now. The Taiga that I planted out is just starting to flower and looks like it certainly wont finish in time, may have to finish flowering this strain indoors as there are only a few all of which are small enough to transport.

However pics from the riverbank site around the first wk of Sept....

The above are Bberry and Papaya, dont know which is which as my grow buddy took the pics while I was away, should be a little fatter by now as well.

And pics from my 2nd site taken this week, the AI...

Click to view attachmentClick to view attachment

Starting with the sugar already so at least something to show for my efforts. The Bberry and Papaya are also filling out nicely and should be aroung 5-6ft by the time they finish, looks like the bunnies did a nice job topping them for me early on.

Just received some more seeds for next year, got the Timewarp and Bonkers as they should deliver nicely well before any frosts, cant wait to cross these out with some of my fave dutch strains and the DNA freebies I got with my LSD seeds just to see what happens. Seems I will be going undercover for the winter ph34r.gif

I had 2 sturdy blueberries finish quikly last year, 1 bb was very top heavy and thus had root problems from being blown about too much. These late finishers will resist mold, but sadly all i was left with was some really 'leafy' bud, like no dense calyx's. I'm smoking it now, as it's all i have left. Not bad too, just not dense enough.

Will take a lot of work to get the whole 100m productive hence only nine plants for my first attempt on this site, the whole area was drowned for a week or 2 in july so I'm lucky they're flowering at all. If it wasn't for the fact it is south facing I wouldnt even bother and long term security remains to be seen, july's rain and late genetics have really spoiled this sites yield this year. I will be sure to drop in your thread and nosy.

The whole lot finishing in time really worries me, its getting colder and I will be real lucky to get anything like solid nuggs I think. Gonna be looking at some of the tried and tested outdoor strains that others here at 420 have had sucess with. When I started this whole project I was relying on the breeders stated finishing times which proved unreliable for even the auto's I bought, but we live and learn and it make me all the more determined to get better results next year. Anything smokeable is a result for my outdoor project this year.

First outdoor harvest just brought home, smokin the last of the dealer weed and will do a smoke report soon as. These pics were taken today. Only harvested the top few colas and the majority is still in the bush. Taken a little early as we had joe public crashin down the path near my river grow, heard a young child and an adult who thankfully, seemed oblivious to my gardening escapades ph34r.gif

An hour later and me an rogertherabbitshoota were walkin home on foot with over a half pound of fresh shizzle band.gif

Onwards past the local police station no less than a hundred yards away!!

Theres still plenty left and the plants look healthy as can be. Roger decided to sample his blueberry and we now have a good quarter or so of blueberry each which is more leafy than the Papaya but has the blueberry aroma which is nice. Weather will dictate the rest of my harvest but the location is well sheltered and not a sign of rot or mould on any of these three ladies, yet!!

Click to view attachmentClick to view attachmentClick to view attachmentClick to view attachment

Me an roger are well happy with what looks like an ounce apiece for now and several more to come. The weather is also gonna be real wet over the next three days but we should have sun on friday so I'll go shake the water off an see where I'm at. Got the thermometer outside just to keep tabs on the frost, 12C last night minimum which is real nice and goes to show you cant always trust the weather man if you live in a sheltered place though it was 6C the other night which is shock territory for plants.

Meanwhile drying commences.

I've yet to smoke em yet guys, but thanks for the +'ive vibes, we is smokin it up here in yorkshire tonight!!

Theres loads more to harvest, roger is just rollin the first of the flash dried bberry, the smell was awesome when we were choppin it though I think it needs another three weeks or so. The Papaya would have been better for another week or even three later if you want the proper indica couchlock, not a brown crystal in sight on any of these ladies!! I can't wait for the rush!!

I also cant believe there isnt any mould on this site, one AI succumbed to mildew when the site got flooded but seems to be recovering. The buds in general seem quiet leafy but they are also solid so the cure will prove all.

Just tokin the bberry now, the flavour is comin and as usual would have been better for the slow dry. The sativa head just hit me with the bberry blues.gif yehaa!!

Roger has eaten some of his bud so thats a recipe for a messy end methinks w00t.gif

BP, your little map of frosts etc says the 8/11 for the first frosts near me so I remain hopefull of good weather.

Thx for droppin by so late...
