Hello everyone

I have a relativly private garden apart from mr dude who lives behind us has a raised patio right up to our fence so if hes bbq'ing or just wondering about he can see everything going on in our garden, im going to put up a trellis along the back fence but im rather stuck as to what to train up it to give us a bit of privacy?

i quite like the idea of having roses could this be possible?

ive only had a garden for 3 years so im proper new to this outdoor plant malarky but loving it equally as much as my indoor garden smile.gif

Roses could do it, do some googling for climbing varieties. I suspect that they don't grow that quickly, though. Also their leaves are relatively small so it may take a very long time to get a barrier out of them. I've never grown them so I don't know for sure.

Jasmine grows incredibly rapidly and is a good privacy plant but you need to be committed to keeping it in check or it will fill your garden and try to pull down your house. Likewise Ivy. They can both be very invasive and require a lot of work to cut back and remove if they get out of hand.

my mate planted some russian vines and they spread like wildfire...3 plants have covered 40 odd foot along the fence in 3 years....
and it looks like its been snowing when its covered in little white flowers smile.gif

plant a mix of rose's, clematis, winter jasmine, jasmine, passion flowers (various) and you will have colour and interest all year round .

Climbing Old Blush rose, a form of Old Blush China rose, is my fave and will flower perpetually, a scent to die for and very easy to grow

Can't argue with rip's selection.

But if you need to fill a trellis at speed plant a hops plant and train it across and back, you can nearly watch it grow a bamboo works well and adds interest in the winter.

Bougainvillea is real pretty, grows like ***k and has the additional advantage of being dead spiky.
