Full Version: Garden Centrers In And 'round The Dam?
UK420 > Cultivation > Compost and Pots > Organic Compost

I'm not quite sure which forum this post should be in, but I'll try it here. Move at as you see fit, mods smile.gif

I'm going to the Dam in a couple of weeks, and I'd thought I'd investigate if there are any garden centers in or 'round Amsterdam where I can pick up some seaweed. Calcified seaweed and seaweed meal is not available where I live, and shipping such items from the UK is not only costly, but also imply a bigger carbon footprint than I would like. So while I'm in the Dam, I might as well pick up some seaweed, yeah?

I'd rather have an inkling as where I might go to get some seaweed, and if it's available at all, so I don't have to walk about all whacked on some Rifman hash, looking all weird and mumbling something about seaweed to passers-by. No, you don't want that, so any pointers are most welcome smile.gif

I know there is a massive flower market, but be fuked if i can remember where it was tho, as I was off my face all the time i was there lol.gif. But I remember that they sold just about everything so wouldnt supprise me if they did.

Most garden centres stock that stuff now, bit supprised you cant find any in your area as alot of people are going organic gardening these days.

De Dampkring has bought out Interpolm growshop on the Prins Hendrikkade nearly opposite from Central Station as you arrive, head there and they should be able to help you or point you in the right direction, failing that head down to the Cannabis College in the RLD and they should know where to point you smoke.gif .

When i went there i went to one but it was very expensive probs cheaper to go mail order
boblydan
Thanks, lads thumbsup.gif I'll do a bit of searching and see what I can find. Mail order is quite pricey as it is, with around 40£ in shipping cost for 2kg of seaweed. I'd rather pick up some while I'm in the Dam anyway.

I remember being at a flower market myself my last time there, I came across it while wandering aimlessly 'round the Dam. Well not aimlessly, just a bit woosy (or should I say high as fekk) and on the lookout for that 3D hologram store wink.gif

Anyway, you'd be surprised how ignorant people (and gardeners it seems) are about organic growing where I'm at (not the UK, btw). At most garden centers you'd be lucky to find one bottle of organic liquid feed, let alone organic compost and additives. The stuff you got going on over there in the UK is way ahead in comparison. It seems like people are completely unaware of seaweed, loam, worm castings, inoculants and such, and since no one uses it or knows anything about, it isn't available. You do have a few exceptions, where local garden stores produce their own organic compost, but they're few and far between. Very few and very far between. Especially the lack of seaweed products seems odd, seing as we've got a coastline as long as fekk lol.gif

Two more weeks now and I'm off to the Dam. It will be a welcome break and a well earned holiday. Whether I come back with some seaweed or not remains to be seen, I reckon I'll be happy enough anyway smoke.gif

lol.gif, I am not surprised. Not a lot of organic fert available here either, but growing is legal here for your own use, and I can get this stuff.

And I make an organic liquid fert from Russian comfrey. But the only “soil“available is peat/forest prooduct substrato. But I can get horse shit and I mix my own compost. Made 170 gallons this year.
