which plants could i put in planters in the backyard that would cover the smell of weed? maybe some nice flowering ones so my lass is happy. my backyard is covered with concrete so planters, screwed to the wall are the only option. pots no good as i've a 2yr old who likes to go football crazy, so something bushy is what i was thinking but really have no idea. thankyou for any replies.
BigWorm
i remember hearing somewhere that lavender plants help mask the smell tho i have never tested this

waddup big perm? i mean big worm! i was thinking along the lines of lavender myself. i've also heard that cedar wood does a good job as well. any more that we know of buddy?

I was out and about on my bike earlier and the lavender everywhere was making the most of the sunshine. Kept smelling it everywhere - lovely. smile.gif

I tend to chuck dried lavender about in the house too when I have any.

Most plants have a limited "window" though - fragrance-wise ...

Rosa rugosa is another - but a bit large and sprawling.

rosa rugosa? i'll have a look because large and sprawling just might be what i need, make them walls a little higher for privacy. i'd be looking at a plant that lasts a while, possibly all year round!! nice one verte!!!!

Planted a late flowering Jasmine, hopefully it will flower in time to be of some use. Also have plenty of Lavender, think we were a bit late as it seems to grow really slowly(as opposed to the Jasmine which is taking over), smells great and they say its good against aphids.

They'll need to be fairly drought tolerant in wall planters, so try these - they should all survive in a planter:

Helichrysum italicum - The curry plant. Reeks like a pot noodle for six months of the year.. smile.gif - Sun Pe.
Salvia sclarea - Clary Sage - Sun Pe.
Cuminum cyminum - Cumin, was once supposed to have magical anti theft properties - a must for outdoor grown weed! - Shade An.
Tagetes spp. esp. Tagetes minuta - Marigolds! Smelly and easy to grow. The Mexican Marigold is the smelliest. - Sun/Part shade An.
Artemesia - Wormwood - get A. 'Powis Castle' if you can - it clips well, stays compact and smells strong. Beautiful leaves too. smile.gif Sun Pe.
Santolina chamaecyparissus tomentosa - Cotton Lavender - v. strong smelling, compact, little yellow flowers. Sun Pe.

You can grow most of these from seed.. smile.gif

brilliant fella's, much appreciated. just been doing a little research myself and came across these that flower during the winter months:

LAURUSTINUS- Viburnum Tinus ('Eve Price') likes full/part sun or shaded area's. flowers from dec/april. evergreen shrub/pink buds with white flowers.

CHRISTMAS BOX- Sarcococca Hookeriana var digyna likes full/part sun or shaded area's. flowers from dec/march. evergreen shrub.

i've also come across;
Salvia Patens - 'Cambridge Blue (sage)
Sweet Pea - Lathyrus odoratus
Mock Orange
Butterfly Bush
Rhododendron

all like full/part sun, usually flower from jun/aug, colourful with plenty of aroma.
Puff Adder
Sweet Alyssum (Lobularia maritima) is a wonderful little annual plant which self seeds rapidly (well it does in my garden), but its not vigorous enough to take over the garden and is easily removed as it doesn't have thorns or runners and has a very shallow root system. Its extremely floriferous, pretty much all year round even in winter. Its flowers smell very sweet somewhat like honey. Well worth a go IMO.

Scented Geraniums, nothing like it smile.gif

What flavour do you want....can get fizzy orange, strawberry, choc n mint, mint, spice.....

Mate of mine specialises in scented plants and gave me a couple and they are truly amazing. They smell so nice you could eat them, everytime I brush past them all I can smell is oranges and strawbs

Heya , the lemon ones geraniums are really pungent as MrD , make nice house plants to but not so hardy for the later months , suppose we should be thinking wallflowers , time flies .
