Err nah, the first time I went the weed knocked me on my ass, I'm not sure how mcuh that was the quality of their buds and how much was the lack of quality of what I was used to.

Nowadays the weed is comparable to what I smoke back home.

Those double stacked black yin-yans I dropped first time may well have changed me a bit tho

The bud is much the same that is grown at home, but the dutch hash will blow you away.

then its likely the stuff you get will be a lot better than what you get here

but if you grow your own it will be of similar quality

but the selection is one thing you cant get at home

fuck me i didnt and probably wont this time. i got hit on the first day by a biker then nearly everyday until one day i stepped in front of a tram... was like a movie scene watching me try to get out the way when i realised what i had done.
umm no the weeds real good i would say for flavours and weights on most but its never made me whitey or nearly whitey and its 10X better then uk weed on the streets. but then i wasnt over doing it either i just had a quick smoke in each cafe we went to.

The only way Amsterdam really changed me was to give me an irrational fear of Trams

1st day there, my mate saved my neck a couple of times..........

First time I went, I didn't understand the hype as I could get as nice weed at home, just not the selection. After the drought in 2006 I know go a few times a year as the bud situation seems to have been f&*ked up since then.

Amsterdam is a trip, you can hang around in the centre, dodging trams, bikes and hookers. Or you can move out a bit and chill in the leafy side streets and picture postcard canals just soaking up the atmosphere, and the parks are great as well.
It changed me because I realised that if society is given a bit of freedom and respect, it makes it such a nicer place to be. I want to live there

I have also been on my own several times, and it's a really chilled out, reflective sort of place to be on your own, imo.
Mind you, with the strength of some of the gear over there, it can be more intense than chilled out, but in a good way y'know

I'm not that impressed with the hash here. Even the stuff at 'heroin prices'. Rather spend my hard-earned on a nice bagga weed. But I've seen plenty of tourists whitey-ing outside coffeeshops after over-doing it.

Jush: Might I suggest that you spend a day outside A'dam?

Haarlem is only a short train ride away from CS, has many quality Coffeeshops (esp 'The Tea House') and is much less 'touristy' than the 'dam - and NO TRAMS!!!

You have to remember that the whole of central 'dam is basically a machine to remove money from tourists' wallets as fast as possible. Esp. Americans!

But the single most important piece of advice I can offer any 'dam first-timer is this:-

Avoid anyone who thinks your name is 'Charley'.

i tell you what, you havent experienced life until youve visited dam. its like a another world somewhere with alot more freedom then the uk and most countries. not just the weed but the whole experience. like sitting outside a coffeshop and smoking a joint while watching a few policemen roll past you just yards away. i loved the whole idea of sitting in homegrown fanatasy while looking out the window theres a police station just on the other side of the road. its so normal out there like we was sitting outside smoking and parents would walk past with young children. the smokes blowing in everyones face and all you can smell when anywhere near a coffeshop is weed! il tell you what no one cares its normalised out there.

yeh, not everyone is stoned out there, there's still people going about there buisness. Especially people on bikes zipping about. The bike people seemed to get pissed when you get in their way. Even if you didnt mean too!

I got the impression from some locals that they are sick of the stoned/tripping tourist violating their city. Others were perfectly friendly and knew why you were here.

Watch you're back for the gangs of guys who will sneak up on you trying to sell you coke and pills. They tend to be quite persistant and intimidating at times.

Its also very expensive and I'm sure its more expensive now since I was there a couple of years ago.

It is a definate must do thing though visiting Amsterdam, real culture shock - bam! right in you're face. you'll get used too it though and maybe definately meet some very interesting people along the way.

Well "TRAM!" screamed at the top of your lungs still raises a smile for me and my mates, and me and my wife still remember with fondness before leaving the hotel one night, I told her we should stop smoking a joint halfway through so "we don't get uncomfotably stoned", 10 minutes later we were melted in to the bed and ordering room service (who didn't bat an eyelid as he set the pizza down next to the dildo, wrap and quarter Oz).

Didn't change me, but it was good times both trips.

Ahhh good old Dam...

1st stop Barneys, Dampkring or Greenhouse.
2nd stop Pub for a quick pint
3rd stop walk through red light (just for view) then get lost for a while
4th stop Food Wok Shop (or whatever they are called), street pizza and banna waffle etc....

then repeat, repeat, repeat till suddenly its about 1am, you are very very stoned, bit pissed, horny as hell but knackered as you have walked a bloody marathon distance. I think my Dam trips are slightly healthy because I honestly walk for about 5+ hours a day.

The weed is normally nice if you go to good coffee shops, the hash is often great. I have never paid silly money for hash and enjoy temple ball or something similar, I just wont spend silly money on ice hash as I can make my own and TBH I dont want to be that fucked!!!

The only change for me was realising what utter crap I smoked in the UK..... hence I started growing my own!

Weeds

I was so spoilt for choice in the Dam (particularly in the Grey Area) that after I got home nothing I bought or got from friends ever quite amounted to anything Cant wait to go back later on this year and try some new strains.

It all sounds very good especially the leafy side streets I wouldnt choose to smoke around trams bikes and hookers. One point of interest, how exactly do you bring a surplus home? My friend posted his back in a DVD case when he went last month

There is no sure way.... a lot of people just try and conceal it a bit and go for it. I have know hundreds of people who have gone & never been searched....but I also know of one who got the rubber glove treatment at this end (he came out crying !).

Weeds

Not that I condone actions of this nature but... hypothetically... if you were to put the hash/weed in jacket/trouser pockets and put them in your suitcase, I don't reckon you'd get caught.

So fucking dissapointed in the 'dam.

Atleast 2 coffeeshops a day would give me under the amount i paid for (i always asked to see it weighed before givnig cash over). TEN IN TOTAL across FIVE DAYS. Arseholes.
Weed is rip-off at best, only weed i thought that was better than mine was in Grey Area (entire menu is shit-hot) or the NYCD in Amnesia.
Apart from that i was wholly unimpressed.

The weed in Haarlem however was mind bending, the tea cheap the people infinitely nicer.
It's so busy at the moment aswell, i'd have to walk in and out of five cafe's/smoker friendly pubs before me and my missus got a seat.

Anyway, not meaning to take away enjoyment. Just go to Haarlem, stock up, and smoke hash and grey-area's menu while in 'dam along the canal side!
It's just not worth the cash anymore for what you're getting in my opinion.

Rotterdam is a pretty cool city with a very moden centre. If your in to architecture it's a great place to go.(it was bombed in ww2 so the centre is new unlike amsterdam).

I agree with your comments in so far as the average stoner looking for somewhere to go for a few days is more likely to enjoy the dam and get more of a buzz out of the place, however rotterdam is still a cool place. There are less coffee shops in rotterdam, well in the centre anyway, and it is definately less touristy but still worth a visit.
I have been to amsterdam 21 times, and rotterdam once(3 days inc new years eve).
As a few have suggested, go to haarlem. Less chance of being ripped off/pickpocketed(yes it has happenend to us!).
Don't get me wrong amsterdam is a fantastic city if you have never been before, but there are other places worth visiting as well

Go to Haarlem as i say in the trip report mate, you won't be dissapointed. The weed is at worst on par with Grey area there, at best it was some of the nicest grass i'd ever seen.

Just read through all your replies, me and the missus are going 'dam for a nice break from the shitty life around here at the moment, shes well into her architecture and art so we'll be going to some nice museums and chapels, and i'm a horticulture student so we'll defo be checking out the botanical gardens because they look amazing

As for smoke, the coffee-shops at the top of my list are; Noon, Grey Area, Café 420, Dampkring and Paradox

Everyone who i;ve been talking to about it has told me to go for the hash, so i'll be trying some but i know nothing about the different types so i hope i dont end up getting shafted

Oh yeah, we're camping in some cabins for 2 days, the place is south of amsterdam an looks really scenenic so i think that'll be nice when i'm red as the devil
