Full Version: What's Ss Chronic Like For Making Mother Plants/clones?

The description says that it doesn't respond well to topping, does this mean that it doesn't bush out very much? Chronic was one of the strains that I narrowed my choices down to but I want a plant that grows bushy for a good supply of cuttings; I want to get a perpetual harvest thingy going on. White Russian and AK47 are on my list too.

Thanks in advance for any replies cool.gif

From what I understand topping it will reduce your yields after flower as it prefers to grow single cola.
It should bush out ok in veg as a mother.

I've never grown it though so have a pinch of salt handy.

I have a 1 year old bubblegum mother from serious seeds, never had a problem with it yet. i keep it in my conservatory in summer months in natural sunlight and under a 250w halide during the winter. it's good for 20 cuts a month if needed.

if you keep your mother healthy and in the correct size pot, it will produce for years. at least 3 anyway.

Chronic is fine for mothers / cuts.

However the cuts take a little longer to root, normally 10-14 days. Most other var's take 7-10 days in my experience.

Also you can top chronic no problem, the image on the SS catalogue is a topped Chronic...

Look at Prawn's Chronic diary for the lowdown, that man knows all there is to know about the strain.
agito
never had a problem taking cuttings but i never topped it.
Weedio
Can take cuttings easily, prefers to grow single cola ime.

DoubleDee grows it perpetually with staggering results, check him out.

i just finished a chronic grow

from 11 seeds 3 female

pretty easy to grow and took some clones which rooted ok if a little slow as been mentioned, couple
of the clones managed to self top and are looking great even though peeps have said that topping
this strain is a no-no

got two different phonotypes

1 taller and quicker to finish 8.5 weeks

1 smaller and bushier took about 9.5 weeks all in batmix soil, biobizz nutrients,
look out for mg def in early flower may be worth giving a nice soaking with epsons b4 putting into flower but
i guess this would depend on your soil

bit stinky when flowering but good yeild (not weighed) and an ok smoke but not one of the strongest

good luck

Thanks dude. Is the Batmix that Plagron stuff? Did you start them off in that or did you use something a bit milder? My last grow I used Westlands Plus Advanced with Bio-Bizz nutes. I've been put off using the more expensive soils because I've heard people say they're too "hot". How did you find the Batmix? Was it OK?

ok m8

i started in root riot cubes

then when showing roots transferred to small pots with 50/50 batmix and perlite then
potted on with 100% batmix, probably a bit strong to start off with just batmix so be safe rather
than sorry wink.gif

i was doing some reading and heard coco coir is better to use than perlite as it allows the roots to
colonise it etc, perlite is dead medium, ask the experts on here for advice if your unsure

but up to you really, perlite worked ok for me

yep was plagron batmix

the grow from seed i finished in 6.5 litre pots but the current clone grow are in 11 litre square pots and seems easier
as can go an extra couple of days before needs watering, but again depends on the size of the plants i think

yes i would rate the plagron batmix as good apart from the mg deficiency but thats easily sorted and didnt
need to feed until about week 3 or 4 in final pots

the only thing i will change on my next grow would be adding some of that friendly fungus powder stuff when potting on
- plant magic granules?
