Full Version: Sativex As An Anti-psychotic?

Prescription anti-psychotic drugs all have nasty side effects, I really don't like taking them and don't get on with them. Anyone who's had the misfortune of ending up on these drugs will know what I mean!

CDB has anti-psychotic effects; as sativex is high in CBD it has anti-psychotic effects (GW Pharmaceuticals mention it as a pharmacological effects of cannabinoids).

Does anyone know if doctors might prescribe Sativex as an anti-psychotic?

Does anyone have anything to say about Sativex as an anti-psychotic?

Does anyone know of any credible research about Sativex as an anti-psychotic, so that I'd be able to show it to doctors when trying to get them to prescribe it for me?

Anyone able to offer any advice or guidance about my idea?

Growing really isn't an option for the foreseeable future, when I have relapses it tends to end up with doctors sending the police round to do a 'welfare check' which predictably ends with them taking me off to hospital, so I really can't have a grow on the go. sad.gif

Would it ehlp? Probably, yes.
Can/will you get a prescription: If you are very rich, yes. Otherwise no.
Not kidding, that's the way it is right now. If you are rich and can afford a private prescription, fine. If not, the NHS computer, it say "No".

You have no chance of getting a Sativex prescription (on NHS) for it's anti-psychotic properties

GW expect NICE to grant approval for treating symptoms of MS this year

Sativex is 51% THC and 49% CBD, I understand that a Sativex ratio of +75% CBD will be used in the anti-psychotic version but I expect it's approval is many years away yet, Full Sativex approval for MS is currently about 9 years overdue so it's going to be a long time

Same subject different option... what's the best way to maximize CBD content (in our harvested bud)?
making hash, curing, is there anything else to ensure a less "psychotic" smoke?

There is credible evidence regarding the antipsychotic properties of CBD. Studies were done in 2006 in Brazilian universities. In Brazil the laws regarding Human testing are a lot less stringent, so psychotic patients were administered pure CBD in the 100's. Here is one link...http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?pid=S0100-879X2006000400001&script=sci_arttext
There are more but basically anything from Brazilian or Israeli Universities should be fairly recent and concise.
The way I would suggest making more CBD in your bud, is to leave it for like two years. I smoked some weed that was five years old and it gave me the same effect as pure CBD, (but in a much lower dose). If you wanted pure CBD you would have to extract it from cannabis oil using silica chromotagrophy, which is extremely easy.
I think if you wanted to increase CBD content then you would have to cure and dry your bud, or make hash and make sure the hash is given heat, light and pressure so that the THC can oxidise into CBD.
Ja bless. huh.gif

From personal experience I can say that yes, it definitely does work as an antipsychotic, at least for mania. But as Danzig says, you got no chance getting a prescription.
