I gotta say, Barneys breakfast bar gives a lush brekky. Snag is it is costly 34.gif They do some nice smokeo too in their coffee shop just a coupla doors up.

You can find some nice breakfast in the centre, alot cheaper too, but if you like to wake an bake then Barney's is a good start thumbsup.gif

Barnys for Breaky and a toot. Otherwise, there's loads of 'eggs n ham' places off the central area. Jordaan has some great local places that are just lovely.

On the other side of the cannal is a bar, cant remember the name, its got a red indian carving outside they do a proppa good breackfast. Its just a few doors down from them hard rock cafe. Or theres a irish pub of dam square on the way you would go to the grey area and coffee shop amnesia. Have a pukka time buddy and you should rally try and make it to a proppa dutch resterunt and try there stampot stew type dish with mash with different veg mixed in, reel nice

T be honest most of the coffee shop brekkies are wank...there's a lovely little cafe by the flower market...cracking full english...and not to far away from the noon!!! smoke.gif

Sorry to hear Barneys has gone downhill so much. Not been there for a smoke or food for ages. Their Croissant and toast basket was really really good!

Actually, now i think about it, do they still prepare food since the smoking ban? Abraxas won't even mix up a milkshake anymore 'cause of the new rules.

last breakfast I had at the new Barney's was great thumbsup.gif still about the best i've found in dam tbh, dont get me wrong you'd be a little pissed if you bought at from the transport cafe on the A5 but about as good as you find in dam.

The old original Barney's was boarded up and they were flooging the weed from the one on the corner, not sure if the original will open back up?

I noticed the Greenhouse down the road from Barney's has food menu tho didnt have anything.
shafty420

Stones cafe provided quite possibly the best Full English breakfast I have had. It has however been a couple of years since my last visit.

It's about 9 euro's though if i remember rightly.

Barney's is good but as others have said, 15 euros (about 13 quid in today's money) is out of control! You'd never spend that over here....

Good alternatives for a brekkie are any of those cafe type places on the long shopping street/pedestrianised street that leads from Dam Square to Harlemerstraat. There's one on the corner opposite the soup place that does a great breakfast for about 7 quid.

As much as I dislike the Greenhouse greenery these days, their food is great - and very reasonable too.

I think 9 Euros for a full brekky in the centre of Amsterdam is pretty cheap!

Even local places, by the time you've added coffee, juice etc, you're touching cloth when it comes to paying!
sensistarlover
Not been for a few years but I used to go to the Irish Pub for a full irish breaky, its just off the main square and you normally see someone holding a banner with a arrow pointing to it

Quite like the Sky Sports cafe off of the Leidseplein they have a good variety of food hot and cold, they also sell pancakes sweet and savory.
Never been keen on Barney's at all the reason for this is that many of the staff working there have a bad attitude coupled with an underlying superiority complex. I got the impression from them that just because they work in Barney's in Amsterdam it gives them some kind of imaginary status, don't talk to me about cannabis I know more than you, I am better than you blah blah blah thumbdown.gif .
Might just have been my impression, speak as you find I say.

Everything is a ripoff in Amsterdam, the food, the drink, the bud, accommodation, it's just one big tourist trap.

Depends where you're staying...there's an "Irish" bar in the Leidseplein that does damn good breakfast, and they do proper Irish coffee too, with whiskey!

The euro rate makes everything expensive. The guy who runs stones is a english fella so probley uses british brands. This is making me hungry doh.gif

I wouldn't spend another Euro in Barneys.......rude staff, an age of a wait for breakfast and vastly over-priced....that was about 6-7 years ago too. Shudders at the memory.

For a really great beakfast, try De Bakkerwinkel on Warmoestraat. Through the bakery it opens out in to a decent sized cafe.
Bacon and eggs, eggs on toast.....Dutch style stickies, dream coffee. They do a great high-tea too.

You can also breakfast at Greenhouse Effect just along the road. Non-residents pay €8 I think.
Buffet style as much as you can eat, meats, cheese, eggs, toast, croissants etc....very reasonable.

I remember the bloke in Stones Cafe telling us the breakfasts are cooked by an English bloke. It was certainly better than any full English I've had in this country. Great staff in Stones Cafe and Corner, very welcoming indeed. The Warm Oors hash from Stones Corner was beautiful too, slightest touch of a flame and it fizzled and bubbled like crazy.

I like Stones Corner, but I cant get on with those farkin' mushroom thingys you have to sit on! rofl.gif
