I know its late, but i don't think it's too late....

After being left with a bunch of cuttings, I decided to go ahead a give uk outdoors another chance. Back to my roots, since this is how it all started back in Austria in the year 2000 or so.... ah, those were the days, but that's a different topic.

I initially didn't want to grow outdoors this year, since the last year was sooo bad and didn't see much point. But i was left with a bunch of cuttings which i had made for a friend (his father became really ill). So instead of chucking the babies away, i decided to keep them and give the uk outdoor another chance...
If i had known before, would have started a lot sooner and would have had the babies planted out by now and growing in full swing. But things aren't looking too bad. Here a look at my new spot.

It took me a while to find it but i think that i'm a happy camper. It gets a lot of sun, but not entire day. I believe just more than 6 hours of direct sunlight should be enough. Been preparing the spot since the past week. Marking the territory to keep the animals away, bringing compost, and finally digging, digging, digging. Been really busy! So far i have brought about 150L of compost and all the nutrients. I only need to finish digging the holes, bring another 50- 100L of compost and finally introduce the cuttings. All this should happen by the end of this week. wish me luck

Mostly White berry cuttings, roughly 20. About 10 pakistan valley cuttings. 2 lemon skunks and finally 2 sensi stars

I know that i have a lot of cuttings, but i don't expect my yield to be spectacular. This is mainly due to timing and lack of preparation. I'm really doing this cause i didn't want to throw them away!

Thanks and hope to provide a good outdoor diary! I grew Purple W. last year and thought it was a nice strain and like you said, early flowering. Had 2 of them done in the first week of oct. But did not provide perfect conditions last year. Weather was all crazy on top. Overall, i was not satisfied with my outdoor grow and hope to improve this year.

It is a nice spot. The only thing that stresses me, is that there is a tiny airfield close to it. spliff.gif
Hard work it is! Bringing all this compost and just started digging yesterday. I had to give up after 45min. of digging because i was sweating so much that even my pants looked like i took a bath in them... not very sexy but this smell should provide good defence against grazers such as rabbits and deers.

Will go digging a little later, cause its simply too hot right now! if you are not too busy you are more than welcome to help me HG... wink1.gif

Never knew what the word taliban actually meant. Another funny fact is that rambo was fighting WITH the taliban against the russians in afghanistan (is that part 3?).... lol.gif. Movie fact that was.
Never heard of Luc but will look into it. Had some good results back in the mountains in austria with nebula haze, top 44 and bushmen. but i also had some disasters with the last two crops i did there before coming here. Both were nicked just weeks before harvest. cry.gif how frustrating is that? There is lots of outdoor growing in austria and clones can still be ordered in shops and be purchased legaly. something i would certainly enjoy here in the uk.
I kinda like the idea of having little plants this time around. keeping them low should provide a good cover, but i still fear the eyes from above. pinch.gif

Must have been pretty crazy times, but you must miss the lovely hash from there. you obviously didn't run into j.rambo. I did a quick wikipedia check about mujahideen and it certainly refreshened my memory. Not quite the same thing and it says that most of the mujahideen leaders which were fighting the russians later fought taliban.
I have a couple of austrian friends which traveled and hiked through afghanistan during the 80s and said that they were such friendly people very hospitable and that it is sad. This shows how a country can be manipulated, by state and/or religion and finaly crushed by us.

I hope we got that sorted for now and i won't get any strange packages that explode in my face. for being so ingnorant by briefly thinking that john rambo was fighting with the taliban and finally that taliban and mujahideen were ultimately the same thing. how wrong i was! wink.gif

if i planted one of them all them tonight? rofl.gif rofl.gif Not quite, I ended up bringing one 35L bag of compost to the spot at 9 o'clock. Things were just too quiet tonight. so i couldn't start shoveling at that time... one would hear me from about a mile away. will try to wake up early and do it tomorrow morning after bringing yet another bag of compost.

Thanks and grab a seat, i can always use some luck as well. wink.gif especially in guerrilla style. I wonder what my outcomes will be, but expecting the worst (all gone) and hoping for the best about an oz a plant! or maybe more. I know this all kinda last minute, but this is how my plans run down for the next couple of days.

I have already brought 210L of compost and will bring another 2x35L. totalling 280L! What fun that was! pinch.gif
This is what i have done so far...

I have dug out an area of about 1.4x3 m and about 30cm deep... I still want to make the area about 2x4m and about 50cm deep!
Will bring another bag of compost later on and dig a little more. Got myself a digging fork, which makes the job a lot easier!
Then i will slowly bring all the cuttings starting staturday through to monday. Need to bring water was well, as will water them as i plant them in. hmm, good rhizotonic! thumbsup.gif

Being in the office with that heat must be the worst. But i couldn't even enjoy a spliff at the spot today. I was just too exhausted. I was even getting a bit dizzy as i was digging under the sun at around 2ish. I was such a fool and had not brought anything else to drink except 0.5L of ice tea, which was gone in literally 2 gulps! Had to give up prematurely, because i thought i would die from heat exhaustion. But i returned and finished what i had to do. I'm not really complaining. I see it as excercise and i haven't been getting much lately.

On this Pic i almost finished digging. you can see the big pile the back.... the area measures about 1.8x4m and i dug about 40-50 cm deep.

I turned the whole bottom layer with the help of my digging fork and made sure it doesnt have big lumps in it. I think its pretty good natural compost but we will see. I added a bit of calcified seaweed, perlite, and a bit of fish/blood. I turned the compost again.
Click to view attachmentClick to view attachment

Then, i added compost which i had carried the past days!!! first, i dumped the 4 bags John Innes 2 into the hole and mixed it in with some natural compost and some more perlite, since it doesn't contain any.
Finally, as all this was mixed, i toped the whole thing with some JAB with added JI, but this isn't on the picture anymore. was getting too dark to make a proper picture. unsure.gif I put the empty 25L bags there so show the scale.

I did bring a 1.5L bottle of volvic when i went today at 7, but that was gone in no time as well. Will bring a spliff along tomorrow as i'm bringing the last 2 bags of compost. yahoo.gif
Rain would be great and had the same thought process about the plastic sheet. Yes, it would be quite visible....

I can carry about 15L water everytime... so no big issue, but if it rains it would be great, cause then i wouldnt have to bring the cuttings and water at the same time....

This pic is taken one day after planting and they all look lively and i think they love it there! biggrin.gif Except the bushy WB on the far right but i think she will get her act together very soon. I put slug killer all around the plot and some between the plants for good measures.
To keep animals at bay, i've been marking the border of my territory upon almost every arrival. wink.gif rofl.gif And i got some hair from the hairdresser and sprickled that around. It was a really easy job to convince the hairdresser to give me the hair after my haircut rofl.gif , and didn't even have to lie about it much. Hmm, forgot to mention that i was also spraying them with Grazers, while they were in my backyard. Bad Penny.
I did that Mr F,though I think my costly mistake was made in september,I took the protectors off and stowed them away, the ground was bone dry, rabbits get some of their moisture intake from the plants they nibble, from early morning dew etc,my ladies were budding, they looked the picture of health,I might have even been counting chickens before the eggs hatched mentally calculating the number of ounces I would have come chop-day,went one morning and several of the plants looked decidedly unhealthy, the next day they were dead russian.gif Checked the bases and they had been ringed, all the bark had been stripped off and nibbled doh.gif
Mr Frisian
I hope these tales make you decide to get chicken wire/protection cause if you dont it will be giljotiini.gif You might get lucky but you have more chance of fat rabbits
Bad Penny.
Theres always a use for fat rabbits biggrin.gif But on a serious note prevention is better than cure, maybe your lucky enough to live in an area with no rabbit population whatsoever in which case you will do just fine as you are.
AustrianTokker
I see what's going on. I think you guys won't be satisfied until i put fencing around.... By hearing your tales, it would be safe to do so i guess. But I don't have the time to put chicken wire around every individual plant. do you think i can put it around the whole plot??? unsure.gif

Yeah look what happened to my 1st plantation, wiped out within 7 days.

If you can't be bothered to do individual cages do a 'Guantanamo Bay' style big cage using 0.6m high wire (homebase ect) then split another roll of 0.6m wire and add that to the top so you'll have 0.9m all around cus believe me some cocky bunny bastard will try and hop over 0.6m fencing!
Marcos
Oh AT, don't forget to use 'Mulch Pegs' [see below] to pin the wire cage to the ground as the rabbits will attempt to burrow before they try a hop, look on eBay for these, they're cheap;
